In 2022, France (X tons), distantly followed by Italy (X tons), the Netherlands (X tons), Austria (X tons) and Belgium (X tons) represented the largest exporters of talc and steatite, together comprising 92% of total exports. The following exporters - Slovakia (X tons) and Spain (X tons) - each amounted to a 5.7% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Slovakia (with a CAGR of +52.7%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest talc and steatite supplying countries in Europe were France ($X), the Netherlands ($X) and Italy ($X), together accounting for 62% of total exports. Austria, Belgium, Spain and Slovakia lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 33%.
Slovakia, with a CAGR of +37.0%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, in terms of the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Over the period under review, the export price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when the export price increased by 11% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Belgium ($X per ton), while Slovakia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Netherlands (+2.7%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in Europe
Talc and steatite imports shrank to X tons in 2022, with a decrease of -10.7% compared with 2021 figures. In general, imports, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 14% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons, and then fell in the following year.

The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +2.1% over the period from 2012 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with only minor fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 24%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X, and then contracted in the following year.
Imports by Country
In 2022, Germany (X tons) and the Netherlands (X tons) represented the key importers of talc and steatite in Europe, together generating 42% of total imports. Italy (X tons) held a 12% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Spain (9.7%), Austria (7.4%) and Belgium (5.6%). The UK (X tons), Poland (X tons), France (X tons), Sweden (X tons), the Czech Republic (X tons) and Russia (X tons) held a relatively small share of total imports.

The level of import peaked in 2022 and is likely to see steady growth in years to come.
