The Europe tin bar market skyrocketed to $X in 2022, increasing by 19% against the previous year. In general, consumption, however, showed a mild reduction. Over the period under review, the market hit record highs at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, consumption remained at a lower figure.

Tin bar exports contracted notably to X tons in 2022, dropping by -37.4% compared with the previous year. Overall, exports continue to indicate a abrupt downturn. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 when exports increased by 21% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, tin bar exports dropped markedly to $X in 2022. In general, exports showed a abrupt slump. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 58% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.
Exports by Country
Germany represented the key exporting country with an export of around X tons, which resulted at 31% of total exports. Poland (X tons) held a 15% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Spain (10%), Portugal (7.8%), the Netherlands (7.6%) and France (7.5%). The following exporters - Hungary (X tons), the Czech Republic (X tons), Belgium (X tons), Italy (X tons) and the UK (X tons) - together made up 14% of total exports.
From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to tin bar exports from Germany stood at -3.9%. At the same time, Portugal (+25.6%), Spain (+9.5%), the UK (+6.1%) and the Czech Republic (+1.6%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Portugal emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Europe, with a CAGR of +25.6% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Belgium (-1.4%), Hungary (-4.8%), France (-10.4%), Poland (-12.1%), Italy (-13.6%) and the Netherlands (-16.8%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Germany (+10 p.p.), Spain (+8.3 p.p.), Portugal (+7.5 p.p.), the Czech Republic (+2 p.p.) and the UK (+1.6 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Italy, France, Poland and the Netherlands saw its share reduced by -2.4%, -2.7%, -9.9% and -13.9% from 2012 to 2022, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Germany ($X) remains the largest tin bar supplier in Europe, comprising 36% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Poland ($X), with a 15% share of total exports. It was followed by France, with an 8.5% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value in Germany was relatively modest. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Poland (-9.2% per year) and France (-5.7% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The export price in Europe stood at $X per ton in 2022, surging by 29% against the previous year. Export price indicated a measured increase from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +2.9% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, tin bar export price increased by +74.3% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 an increase of 35%. The level of export peaked in 2022 and is likely to see steady growth in the immediate term.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per ton), while the UK ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

Tin bar imports declined to X tons in 2022, reducing by -8% against the previous year. Overall, imports showed a perceptible contraction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when imports increased by 17%. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, tin bar imports expanded to $X in 2022. In general, imports saw a pronounced contraction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 39% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
The purchases of the eleven major importers of tin bars, rods, profiles and wires, namely Spain, Italy, the UK, Romania, Poland, Germany, France, the Czech Republic, Austria, Hungary and the Netherlands, represented more than two-thirds of total import.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main importing countries, was attained by the Netherlands (with a CAGR of +20.7%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the UK ($X), Spain ($X) and Germany ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, together comprising 31% of total imports. Poland, Romania, Italy, Hungary, France, the Czech Republic, Austria and the Netherlands lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 46%.
The Netherlands, with a CAGR of +19.7%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the import price in Europe amounted to $X per ton, rising by 12% against the previous year. Import price indicated a temperate increase from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +2.0% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, tin bar import price increased by +57.8% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 an increase of 39%. Over the period under review, import prices hit record highs in 2022 and is likely to continue growth in years to come.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Hungary ($X per ton), while Italy ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the UK (+7.1%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
