Tin Market Size in Europe

In 2022, the Europe tin market increased by 21% to $X, rising for the second year in a row after two years of decline. The market value increased at an average annual rate of +3.1% over the period from 2012 to 2022; the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. Over the period under review, the market hit record highs in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.

Tin Production in Europe

In value terms, tin production totaled $X in 2022 estimated in export price. Over the period under review, production, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when the production volume increased by 23% against the previous year. Over the period under review, production attained the peak level at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, production remained at a lower figure.

Tin Exports

Exports in Europe

In 2022, after two years of growth, there was significant decline in overseas shipments of tin, when their volume decreased by -31.2% to X tons. Total exports indicated tangible growth from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.3% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when exports increased by 71%. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2021, and then declined sharply in the following year.

In value terms, tin exports declined dramatically to $X in 2022. In general, exports, however, showed strong growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 91%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X, and then declined dramatically in the following year.

Exports by Country

Belgium was the largest exporting country with an export of around X tons, which amounted to 40% of total exports. The Netherlands (X tons) held the second position in the ranking, distantly followed by Poland (X tons), Germany (X tons) and Spain (X tons). All these countries together held near 49% share of total exports. The following exporters - Portugal (X tons), Italy (X tons) and Russia (X tons) - together made up 7.3% of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main exporting countries, was attained by Portugal (with a CAGR of +167.1%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Belgium ($X), the Netherlands ($X) and Poland ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2022, with a combined 80% share of total exports. Germany, Spain, Portugal, Italy and Russia lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 16%.

Among the main exporting countries, Portugal, with a CAGR of +195.1%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

In 2022, the export price in Europe amounted to $X per ton, rising by 16% against the previous year. Export price indicated a pronounced increase from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +4.5% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, tin export price increased by +96.4% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 an increase of 69%. Over the period under review, the export prices attained the peak figure in 2022 and is likely to continue growth in the near future.

Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, major exporting countries recorded the following prices: in Poland ($X per ton) and Germany ($X per ton), while Russia ($X per ton) and Portugal ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Portugal (+10.5%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Tin Imports

Imports in Europe

After two years of growth, supplies from abroad of tin decreased by -8% to X tons in 2022. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.4% from 2012 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 13%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons, and then fell in the following year.

In value terms, tin imports reached $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a strong increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 93% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum in 2022 and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Imports by Country

In 2022, Germany (X tons), distantly followed by the Netherlands (X tons), Spain (X tons), Italy (X tons), Austria (X tons), France (X tons) and the UK (X tons) were the major importers of tin, together making up 81% of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main importing countries, was attained by Austria (with a CAGR of +6.4%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Germany ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported tin in Europe, comprising 29% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by the Netherlands ($X), with a 14% share of total imports. It was followed by Spain, with a 10% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Germany totaled +4.1%. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: the Netherlands (+6.5% per year) and Spain (+6.7% per year).

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the import price in Europe amounted to $X per ton, surging by 9.6% against the previous year. Import price indicated moderate growth from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +4.2% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, tin import price increased by +87.5% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when the import price increased by 71%. The level of import peaked in 2022 and is likely to see gradual growth in years to come.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per ton), while Austria ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
