The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when exports increased by 22%. The volume of export peaked in 2021 and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, titanium dioxide pigments exports soared to $X in 2021. Total exports indicated a modest expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +1.8% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports increased by +89.9% against 2015 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 24% against the previous year. The level of export peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.

Belgium (X tons) and Germany (X tons) represented roughly 47% of total exports in 2021. The UK (X tons) held a 12% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by the Netherlands (8.8%), France (4.9%) and Spain (4.9%). Slovenia (X tons), Norway (X tons), the Czech Republic (X tons), Luxembourg (X tons), Ukraine (X tons) and Russia (X tons) took a little share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Luxembourg (with a CAGR of +273.3%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest titanium dioxide pigments supplying countries in Europe were Belgium ($X), Germany ($X) and the UK ($X), with a combined 60% share of total exports. These countries were followed by the Netherlands, France, Spain, Slovenia, Norway, the Czech Republic, Luxembourg, Ukraine and Russia, which together accounted for a further 34%.

Luxembourg, with a CAGR of +254.5%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, among the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The export price in Europe stood at $X per ton in 2021, surging by 9.8% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, showed a slight slump. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 an increase of 20%. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per ton), while Ukraine ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Netherlands (+1.7%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

In 2021, imports of titanium dioxide pigments and colouring preparations in Europe rose markedly to X tons, picking up by 8.9% against 2020. Total imports indicated a remarkable increase from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +6.1% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +53.2% against 2015 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when imports increased by 19% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum in 2021 and are likely to see gradual growth in years to come.

In value terms, titanium dioxide pigments imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Total imports indicated a measured expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.6% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +16.2% against 2018 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 34%. The level of import peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

Belgium (X tons) and Germany (X tons) represented the largest importers of titanium dioxide pigments and colouring preparations in 2021, reaching near 23% and 16% of total imports, respectively. France (X tons) ranks next in terms of the total imports with a 10% share, followed by Italy (8.6%), Spain (5.9%), the Netherlands (5.4%), Poland (5%) and Russia (4.7%). The UK (X tons), Sweden (X tons), Luxembourg (X tons) and Portugal (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the key importing countries, was attained by Luxembourg (with a CAGR of +40.1%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Belgium ($X), Germany ($X) and France ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, together accounting for 45% of total imports. These countries were followed by Italy, the Netherlands, Spain, Poland, Russia, the UK, Sweden, Luxembourg and Portugal, which together accounted for a further 42%.
