Transport Container Market Size in Europe

The Europe transport container market reached $X in 2022, picking up by 10% against the previous year. In general, consumption, however, recorded resilient growth. As a result, consumption attained the peak level of $X. From 2018 to 2022, the growth of the market remained at a lower figure.

The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 84% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked at X units in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, transport container exports surged to $X in 2022. Total exports indicated a moderate expansion from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.3% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +58.2% against 2020 indices. In 2022, the Netherlands (X units), distantly followed by the UK (X units), Italy (X units), Belgium (X units), Poland (X units), France (X units) and Spain (X units) represented the major exporters of transport containers, together constituting 84% of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for the UK (with a CAGR of +14.2%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the Netherlands ($X), Poland ($X) and France ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2022, together comprising 45% of total exports.

Among the main exporting countries, Poland, with a CAGR of +8.7%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

In 2022, the export price in Europe amounted to $X per unit, dropping by -9.6% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, saw strong growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when the export price increased by 154%. The level of export peaked at $X per unit in 2021, and then contracted in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Poland ($X per unit), while Belgium ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Netherlands (+15.0%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Transport Container Imports

Imports in Europe

In 2022, approx. X units of transport containers were imported in Europe; which is down by -7.5% compared with 2021 figures. In general, imports, however, saw a resilient increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 when imports increased by 41%. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at X units in 2021, and then reduced in the following year.

In value terms, transport container imports expanded significantly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a strong increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 42% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum in 2022 and are likely to continue growth in the near future.

Imports by Country

In 2022, Belgium (X units), distantly followed by Spain (X units), France (X units), the UK (X units), Germany (X units) and the Netherlands (X units) were the main importers of transport containers, together making up 78% of total imports. The following importers - Switzerland (X units), Italy (X units), Poland (X units), Sweden (X units) and Hungary (X units) - together made up 13% of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Belgium (with a CAGR of +31.3%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest transport container importing markets in Europe were Germany ($X), France ($X) and the Netherlands ($X), together comprising 44% of total imports. The UK, Sweden, Switzerland, Belgium, Italy, Poland, Spain and Hungary lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 32%.

Poland, with a CAGR of +21.2%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in Europe stood at $X per unit in 2022, picking up by 18% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 an increase of 26%. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per unit. From 2017 to 2022, the import prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per unit), while Belgium ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Poland (+32.4%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
