Transporter and bridge cranes exports dropped dramatically to X units in 2021, falling by -32.3% compared with 2020 figures. Overall, exports saw a pronounced decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when exports increased by 12%. The volume of export peaked at X units in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, transporter and bridge cranes exports shrank significantly to $X in 2021. In general, exports showed a perceptible decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 21%. The level of export peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

In 2021, Germany (X units) was the largest exporter of transporter cranes, gantry cranes and bridge cranes, comprising 43% of total exports. Spain (X units) took a 13% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Ireland (8.7%), Slovakia (6.1%), the Czech Republic (5.6%) and Italy (5.3%). The following exporters - France (X units) and Serbia (X units) - each amounted to a 4.6% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to transporter and bridge cranes exports from Germany stood at +1.6%. At the same time, the Czech Republic (+58.2%), Slovakia (+16.7%), France (+3.1%) and Spain (+1.1%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, the Czech Republic emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Europe, with a CAGR of +58.2% from 2012-2021. Serbia experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Ireland (-10.9%) and Italy (-12.6%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Germany (+18 p.p.), the Czech Republic (+5.5 p.p.), Slovakia (+5.1 p.p.) and Spain (+4.9 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2021, the share of Italy (-6.7 p.p.) and Ireland (-7.8 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Germany ($X) remains the largest transporter and bridge cranes supplier in Europe, comprising 43% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Ireland ($X), with a 19% share of total exports. It was followed by Spain, with a 9.4% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in Germany totaled +1.8%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Ireland (-4.4% per year) and Spain (+6.9% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the export price in Europe amounted to $X per unit, surging by 1.7% against the previous year. In general, the export price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 an increase of 9.9%. The level of export peaked at $X per unit in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Ireland ($X per unit), while Slovakia ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Ireland (+7.3%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in Europe

After three years of growth, supplies from abroad of transporter cranes, gantry cranes and bridge cranes decreased by -38.3% to X units in 2021. Total imports indicated a modest increase from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.0% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 50%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X units, and then shrank rapidly in the following year.

In value terms, transporter and bridge cranes imports shrank dramatically to $X in 2021. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 45% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2020, and then reduced markedly in the following year.

Imports by Country

In 2021, the UK (X units), Italy (X units), Germany (X units), France (X units), Russia (X units), Norway (X units), Sweden (X units), Poland (X units) and the Netherlands (X units) was the main importer of transporter cranes, gantry cranes and bridge cranes in Europe, achieving 77% of total import. Belgium (X units), Austria (X units), Spain (X units) and Luxembourg (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the key importing countries, was attained by Italy (with a CAGR of +49.1%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Italy ($X), the UK ($X) and France ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, with a combined 40% share of total imports.

In terms of the main importing countries, Italy, with a CAGR of +43.6%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in Europe stood at $X per unit in 2021, rising by 15% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 an increase of 31%. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per unit. From 2015 to 2021, the import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($X per unit), while Germany ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Norway (+2.6%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
