Triticale Market Size in Europe
The Europe triticale market totaled $X in 2022, rising by 1.6% against the previous year. Overall, consumption, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, the market reached the peak level at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, consumption stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Triticale Production in Europe
In value terms, triticale production stood at $X in 2022 estimated in export price. Over the period under review, production, however, showed a slight slump. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 when the production volume increased by 25%. The level of production peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, production remained at a lower figure.
Poland (X tons) constituted the country with the largest volume of triticale production, comprising approx. 41% of total volume. Moreover, triticale production in Poland exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest producer, Germany (X tons), threefold. The third position in this ranking was held by Belarus (X tons), with an 11% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume in Poland totaled +5.5%. The remaining producing countries recorded the following average annual rates of production growth: Germany (-1.5% per year) and Belarus (-1.2% per year).
In 2022, the average yield of triticale in Europe totaled X tons per ha, almost unchanged from 2021 figures. The yield figure increased at an average annual rate of +1.4% from 2012 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when the yield increased by 11%. The level of yield peaked at X tons per ha in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the yield stood at a somewhat lower figure. Despite the increased use of modern agricultural techniques and methods, future yield figures may still be impacted by adverse weather conditions.
In 2022, the harvested area of triticale in Europe reached X ha, flattening at 2021. In general, the harvested area, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 9.2%. The level of harvested area peaked at X ha in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, the harvested area remained at a lower figure.
Triticale Exports
Exports in Europe
In 2022, the amount of triticale exported in Europe fell to X tons, declining by -9.3% on 2021. Overall, exports, however, enjoyed strong growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 139% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, triticale exports soared to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, saw a resilient expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when exports increased by 129% against the previous year. The level of export peaked in 2022 and is likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.
Exports by Country
Poland represented the largest exporter of triticale in Europe, with the volume of exports accounting for X tons, which was approx. 62% of total exports in 2022. France (X tons) held the second position in the ranking, followed by Germany (X tons). All these countries together held approx. 27% share of total exports. Lithuania (X tons) and the Czech Republic (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
Poland was also the fastest-growing in terms of the triticale exports, with a CAGR of +22.6% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, France (+9.0%) displayed positive paces of growth. Germany experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, the Czech Republic (-2.0%) and Lithuania (-9.6%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Poland increased by +45 percentage points. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Poland ($X) remains the largest triticale supplier in Europe, comprising 63% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by France ($X), with a 15% share of total exports. It was followed by Germany, with an 11% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value in Poland stood at +25.5%. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: France (+10.3% per year) and Germany (+0.5% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The export price in Europe stood at $X per ton in 2022, picking up by 36% against the previous year. Export price indicated a slight increase from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +1.4% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, triticale export price increased by +70.8% against 2020 indices. As a result, the export price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, major exporting countries recorded the following prices: in Poland ($X per ton) and Germany ($X per ton), while the Czech Republic ($X per ton) and France ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Poland (+2.3%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Triticale Imports
Imports in Europe
In 2022, approx. X tons of triticale were imported in Europe; shrinking by -8.7% on 2021 figures. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed a strong expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of 140%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, triticale imports surged to $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, saw a resilient expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 135% against the previous year. The level of import peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.
Imports by Country
In 2022, Germany (X tons) was the largest importer of triticale, generating 41% of total imports. Spain (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total imports with a 25% share, followed by the Netherlands (17%) and Italy (7.4%). The following importers - Austria (X tons) and Portugal (X tons) - each recorded a 3.5% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Portugal (with a CAGR of +45.8%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest triticale importing markets in Europe were Germany ($X), Spain ($X) and the Netherlands ($X), with a combined 82% share of total imports. Italy, Austria and Portugal lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 12%.
In terms of the main importing countries, Portugal, with a CAGR of +34.2%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the import price in Europe amounted to $X per ton, surging by 34% against the previous year. Import price indicated a slight increase from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +1.3% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, triticale import price increased by +68.7% against 2020 indices. As a result, import price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, major importing countries recorded the following prices: in Portugal ($X per ton) and Austria ($X per ton), while the Netherlands ($X per ton) and Spain ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.
