Tufted Carpet Market Size in Europe

The Europe tufted carpet market reduced notably to $X in 2022, with a decrease of -17% against the previous year. Overall, consumption, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. As a result, consumption reached the peak level of $X, and then dropped remarkably in the following year.

The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 13%. Over the period under review, production attained the maximum level at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, production failed to regain momentum.

Exports in Europe

In 2022, exports of tufted carpets and other tufted textile floor coverings in Europe fell slightly to X square meters, which is down by -2.6% compared with 2021. In general, exports, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 6.6% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at X square meters in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, tufted carpet exports fell slightly to $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 11%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

In 2022, the Netherlands (X square meters) and Belgium (X square meters) represented the largest exporters of tufted carpets and other tufted textile floor coverings in Europe, together finishing at approx. 67% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Germany (X square meters), making up a 6.6% share of total exports. The following exporters - the UK (X square meters), France (X square meters), the Czech Republic (X square meters), Austria (X square meters), Poland (X square meters), Italy (X square meters), Denmark (X square meters) and Spain (X square meters) - together made up 22% of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Spain (with a CAGR of +9.4%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest tufted carpet supplying countries in Europe were the Netherlands ($X), Belgium ($X) and Germany ($X), with a combined 67% share of total exports. The UK, Poland, France, Denmark, Italy, the Czech Republic, Austria and Spain lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 26%.

Spain, with a CAGR of +10.0%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, among the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

In 2022, the export price in Europe amounted to $X per square meter, standing approx. at the previous year. In general, the export price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 an increase of 6.5% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X per square meter in 2021, and then shrank slightly in the following year.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Denmark ($X per square meter), while Austria ($X per square meter) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Poland (+3.5%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in Europe

In 2022, tufted carpet imports in Europe dropped to X square meters, waning by -8.7% on 2021. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.2% over the period from 2012 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 13%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X square meters, and then fell in the following year.

In 2022, the UK (X square meters), distantly followed by Germany (X square meters), the Czech Republic (X square meters), the Netherlands (X square meters), Russia (X square meters), Spain (X square meters), Belgium (X square meters) and Poland (X square meters) were the major importers of tufted carpets and other tufted textile floor coverings, together mixing up 78% of total imports. Italy (X square meters), Sweden (X square meters) and Ireland (X square meters) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Spain (with a CAGR of +12.5%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest tufted carpet importing markets in Europe were the UK ($X), Germany ($X) and the Netherlands ($X), together accounting for 51% of total imports. Spain, Poland, the Czech Republic, Belgium, Russia, Sweden, Italy and Ireland lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 29%.

Spain, with a CAGR of +9.3%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the import price in Europe amounted to $X per square meter, which is down by -4.5% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price showed a slight contraction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when the import price increased by 7.3%. The level of import peaked at $X per square meter in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Sweden ($X per square meter), while the Czech Republic ($X per square meter) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Netherlands (+1.4%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the import price figures.
