In 2021, Portugal (X tons), distantly followed by Finland (X tons), Germany (X tons), Slovakia (X tons), Poland (X tons), Sweden (X tons), France (X tons), Austria (X tons) and Russia (X tons) were the major exporters of uncoated wood free printing and writing papers, together creating 81% of total exports. Spain (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Russia (with a CAGR of +3.1%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Portugal ($X), Germany ($X) and Finland ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2021, together comprising 41% of total exports. Poland, Slovakia, Sweden, France, Austria, Spain and Russia lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 39%.

In terms of the main exporting countries, Spain, with a CAGR of +0.8%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the exports figures.

The export price in Europe stood at $X per ton in 2021, growing by 6.7% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when the export price increased by 8.3%. Over the period under review, the export prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per ton), while Russia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Germany (+0.7%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

After two years of decline, supplies from abroad of uncoated wood free printing and writing papers increased by 3.8% to X tons in 2021. In general, imports, however, recorded a noticeable shrinkage. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

In 2021, the import price in Europe amounted to $X per ton, increasing by 3.9% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 an increase of 9.7% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2013; afterwards, it flattened through to 2021.

Prices varied noticeably country of destination: the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($X per ton), while Romania ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Netherlands (+1.1%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the import price figures.
