The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when exports increased by 13% against the previous year. The level of export peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
Exports by Country
The Czech Republic (X litres) and Germany (X litres) represented roughly 58% of total exports in 2021. Slovenia (X litres) ranks next in terms of the total exports with a 12% share, followed by France (10%), Switzerland (9.1%) and Croatia (6.6%).
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the key exporting countries, was attained by Germany (with a CAGR of +0.6%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the exports figures.
In value terms, France ($X) remains the largest non-mineral or non-aerated water supplier in Europe, comprising 30% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Germany ($X), with a 9% share of total exports. It was followed by the Czech Republic, with a 2.7% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in France was relatively modest. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Germany (+0.5% per year) and the Czech Republic (+5.1% per year).

The export price in Europe stood at $X per thousand litres in 2021, increasing by 15% against the previous year. Export price indicated a prominent increase from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +5.5% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, non-mineral or non-aerated water export price increased by +44.8% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when the export price increased by 26%. Over the period under review, the export prices attained the maximum in 2021 and is likely to see gradual growth in years to come.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was France ($X per thousand litres), while Switzerland ($X per thousand litres) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Czech Republic (+12.5%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in Europe
In 2021, purchases abroad of non-mineral or non-aerated waters increased by 3% to X litres for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 55% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X litres in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, non-mineral or non-aerated water imports amounted to $X in 2021. Total imports indicated a resilient increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.6% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +83.0% against 2015 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when imports increased by 33% against the previous year. The level of import peaked in 2021 and is likely to continue growth in the near future.
Imports by Country
Poland (X litres) and the Netherlands (X litres) were the major importers of non-mineral or non-aerated waters in 2021, finishing at approx. 43% and 34% of total imports, respectively. It was distantly followed by Belgium (X litres), constituting an 11% share of total imports. The following importers - Slovenia (X litres), France (X litres) and Luxembourg (X litres) - together made up 8.3% of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Luxembourg (with a CAGR of +42.2%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the Netherlands ($X), Belgium ($X) and France ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, together comprising 61% of total imports.
Belgium, with a CAGR of +9.6%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The import price in Europe stood at $X per thousand litres in 2021, rising by 7.9% against the previous year. Import price indicated a strong increase from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +5.3% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, non-mineral or non-aerated water import price increased by +7.2% against 2017 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 an increase of 42%. Over the period under review, import prices attained the maximum in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was France ($X per thousand litres), while Poland ($X per thousand litres) was amongst the lowest.
