Unvulcanized Rubber Market Size in Europe
In 2022, the Europe unvulcanized rubber market increased by 15% to $X, rising for the second consecutive year after three years of decline. Over the period under review, consumption, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. As a result, consumption attained the peak level of $X. From 2018 to 2022, the growth of the market remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, unvulcanized rubber production soared to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. In general, production, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The level of production peaked at $X in 2012; afterwards, it flattened through to 2022.
Unvulcanized Rubber Exports
Exports in Europe
In 2022, approx. X tons of unvulcanized rubber and articles thereof were exported in Europe; shrinking by -5.4% on the previous year. Over the period under review, exports continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 9.9%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X tons in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, unvulcanized rubber exports dropped slightly to $X in 2022. In general, exports recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 16% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Exports by Country
Germany was the largest exporter of unvulcanized rubber and articles thereof in Europe, with the volume of exports resulting at X tons, which was near 28% of total exports in 2022. Italy (X tons) took the second position in the ranking, followed by Poland (X tons), France (X tons), Spain (X tons), the Czech Republic (X tons), the UK (X tons) and the Netherlands (X tons). All these countries together held approx. 49% share of total exports. The following exporters - Belgium (X tons), Romania (X tons), Austria (X tons), Sweden (X tons) and Slovakia (X tons) - together made up 13% of total exports.
Germany experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of exports of unvulcanized rubber and articles thereof. At the same time, Poland (+5.9%), Romania (+4.4%), Slovakia (+3.6%), Spain (+1.9%) and the Czech Republic (+1.1%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Poland emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Europe, with a CAGR of +5.9% from 2012-2022. The Netherlands, Italy, Austria and Sweden experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, France (-1.1%), the UK (-5.8%) and Belgium (-6.0%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Poland (+4 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2022, the share of Germany (-2.4 p.p.), Belgium (-3.4 p.p.) and the UK (-3.8 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Germany ($X) remains the largest unvulcanized rubber supplier in Europe, comprising 31% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Italy ($X), with an 11% share of total exports. It was followed by France, with a 9% share.
In Germany, unvulcanized rubber exports remained relatively stable over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Italy (+0.3% per year) and France (-2.7% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2022, the export price in Europe amounted to $X per ton, rising by 4.3% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when the export price increased by 7% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Sweden ($X per ton), while Poland ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Sweden (+2.7%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Unvulcanized Rubber Imports
Imports in Europe
In 2022, unvulcanized rubber imports in Europe contracted to X tons, therefore, remained relatively stable against the year before. Over the period under review, imports saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 7.9% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, unvulcanized rubber imports rose to $X in 2022. In general, imports continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 18% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
The countries with the highest levels of unvulcanized rubber imports in 2022 were Germany (X tons), Poland (X tons), France (X tons), Spain (X tons), Italy (X tons), Romania (X tons), Belgium (X tons), the UK (X tons), the Czech Republic (X tons), the Netherlands (X tons), Russia (X tons) and Hungary (X tons), together recording 80% of total import. Serbia (X tons) took a relatively small share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Serbia (with a CAGR of +14.4%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Germany ($X), Poland ($X) and France ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, together accounting for 35% of total imports. Italy, Spain, Romania, the UK, the Netherlands, Belgium, the Czech Republic, Russia, Hungary and Serbia lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 46%.
In terms of the main importing countries, Serbia, with a CAGR of +13.1%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the import price in Europe amounted to $X per ton, rising by 3% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 an increase of 9.6%. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($X per ton), while Serbia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Netherlands (+2.2%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
