Vegetable Puree Market Size in Europe

In 2022, the Europe vegetable puree market decreased by -4% to $X, falling for the second year in a row after four years of growth. Over the period under review, consumption, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. As a result, consumption reached the peak level of $X. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the market remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Vegetable Puree Production in Europe

In value terms, vegetable puree production rose notably to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. The total output value increased at an average annual rate of +1.2% over the period from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern remained consistent, with only minor fluctuations being observed throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 16%. The level of production peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.

Vegetable Puree Exports

Exports in Europe

After two years of growth, overseas shipments of vegetable puree decreased by -1.4% to X tons in 2022. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.5% over the period from 2012 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when exports increased by 15% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons. From 2017 to 2022, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, vegetable puree exports declined to $X in 2022. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +2.1% over the period from 2012 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 20% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X in 2021, and then contracted in the following year.

Exports by Country

In 2022, Italy (X tons) was the key exporter of vegetable puree, generating 36% of total exports. Spain (X tons) held the second position in the ranking, followed by the Netherlands (X tons), France (X tons), Poland (X tons), Bulgaria (X tons) and Russia (X tons). All these countries together held approx. 45% share of total exports.

Italy experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of exports of vegetable puree. At the same time, Russia (+20.5%), the Netherlands (+10.1%) and France (+5.7%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Russia emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Europe, with a CAGR of +20.5% from 2012-2022. Bulgaria and Spain experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Poland (-2.4%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. The Netherlands (+4.9 p.p.), Russia (+4.1 p.p.) and France (+2.6 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Spain, Poland and Italy saw its share reduced by -1.8%, -3% and -4.4% from 2012 to 2022, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Italy ($X) remains the largest vegetable puree supplier in Europe, comprising 30% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by France ($X), with a 14% share of total exports. It was followed by the Netherlands, with a 7.9% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Italy stood at +4.3%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: France (+7.6% per year) and the Netherlands (+10.3% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The export price in Europe stood at $X per ton in 2022, which is down by -8.7% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 an increase of 18%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2014 to 2022, the export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was France ($X per ton), while Spain ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Italy (+4.0%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Vegetable Puree Imports

Imports in Europe

In 2022, purchases abroad of vegetable puree decreased by -3.7% to X tons, falling for the second consecutive year after two years of growth. Total imports indicated a modest expansion from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.8% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports decreased by -29.0% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when imports increased by 37% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, vegetable puree imports reduced slightly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 18%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

Russia (X tons) and Belgium (X tons) represented roughly 43% of total imports in 2022. It was distantly followed by the UK (X tons), Germany (X tons), Italy (X tons) and France (X tons), together generating a 29% share of total imports. The following importers - Romania (X tons), Austria (X tons), the Netherlands (X tons) and Sweden (X tons) - together made up 13% of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Italy (with a CAGR of +12.7%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Belgium ($X), the UK ($X) and Russia ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, together accounting for 47% of total imports. Germany, Italy, Austria, the Netherlands, France, Romania and Sweden lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 33%.

Among the main importing countries, Romania, with a CAGR of +14.0%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the import price in Europe amounted to $X per ton, remaining stable against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, continues to indicate a slight setback. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when the import price increased by 16%. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.
