In 2022, shipments abroad of video game consoles decreased by -54.5% to X units for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year rising trend. Overall, exports saw a pronounced downturn. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 77% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at X units in 2021, and then fell markedly in the following year.
In value terms, video game console exports shrank sharply to $X in 2022. In general, exports, however, posted a measured increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when exports increased by 68% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at $X in 2021, and then dropped significantly in the following year.
Exports by Country
The biggest shipments were from Germany (X units), Poland (X units), the Netherlands (X units), France (X units), Spain (X units) and the UK (X units), together finishing at 76% of total export. The following exporters - Sweden (X units), Slovakia (X units), the Czech Republic (X units) and Belgium (X units) - together made up 14% of total exports.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Poland (with a CAGR of +19.9%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest video game console supplying countries in Europe were Germany ($X), Poland ($X) and Spain ($X), together comprising 62% of total exports.
Among the main exporting countries, Poland, with a CAGR of +30.1%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
The export price in Europe stood at $X per unit in 2022, surging by 23% against the previous year. Overall, the export price saw prominent growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 an increase of 51% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices reached the maximum at $X per unit in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Spain ($X per unit), while France ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when imports increased by 46%. The volume of import peaked at X units in 2021, and then dropped significantly in the following year.
In value terms, video game console imports contracted rapidly to $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a tangible increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 with an increase of 62% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at $X in 2021, and then reduced markedly in the following year.
Imports by Country
The UK (X units) and Germany (X units) represented roughly 38% of total imports in 2022. France (X units) took the next position in the ranking, followed by the Netherlands (X units), Poland (X units) and Spain (X units). All these countries together took near 37% share of total imports. Italy (X units), Sweden (X units), the Czech Republic (X units), Russia (X units) and Belgium (X units) took a minor share of total imports.

The import price in Europe stood at $X per unit in 2022, therefore, remained relatively stable against the previous year. Import price indicated pronounced growth from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +4.5% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, video game console import price decreased by -4.7% against 2020 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 an increase of 12%. The level of import peaked at $X per unit in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Poland ($X per unit), while Russia ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
