Exports in Europe
In 2022, overseas shipments of water-skis, surfboards and sailboards decreased by -4.8% to X units for the first time since 2015, thus ending a six-year rising trend. Over the period under review, exports, however, enjoyed a prominent expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when exports increased by 25%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at X units in 2021, and then declined in the following year.
In value terms, water-skis and surfboards exports reduced to $X in 2022. In general, exports, however, showed a resilient increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when exports increased by 36%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X, and then reduced in the following year.
Exports by Country
In 2022, the Netherlands (X units) was the largest exporter of water-skis, surfboards and sailboards, generating 30% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Italy (X units), France (X units), Spain (X units), Germany (X units) and Austria (X units), together generating a 51% share of total exports. Poland (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to water-skis and surfboards exports from the Netherlands stood at +24.6%. At the same time, Poland (+28.6%), Austria (+23.4%), Spain (+21.0%), Germany (+12.1%) and France (+6.8%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Poland emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Europe, with a CAGR of +28.6% from 2012-2022. Italy experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. The Netherlands (+21 p.p.), Spain (+6.4 p.p.), Austria (+3.2 p.p.) and Poland (+2.9 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while France and Italy saw its share reduced by -4.9% and -23.4% from 2012 to 2022, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, the Netherlands ($X), Italy ($X) and France ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2022, together accounting for 50% of total exports. Germany, Spain, Austria and Poland lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 34%.
Poland, with a CAGR of +24.9%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, in terms of the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
In 2022, the export price in Europe amounted to $X per unit, falling by -3.9% against the previous year. In general, the export price saw a slight descent. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when the export price increased by 8.9%. The level of export peaked at $X per unit in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Austria ($X per unit), while the Netherlands ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Italy (+1.9%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.
Water-Skis And Surfboards Imports
Imports in Europe
In 2022, supplies from abroad of water-skis, surfboards and sailboards decreased by -6.3% to X units for the first time since 2015, thus ending a six-year rising trend. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate buoyant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 64% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X units, and then shrank in the following year.
In value terms, water-skis and surfboards imports shrank to $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, saw strong growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 70% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X, and then contracted in the following year.
Imports by Country
The countries with the highest levels of water-skis and surfboards imports in 2022 were Germany (X units), the Netherlands (X units), France (X units), the UK (X units) and Spain (X units), together finishing at 60% of total import. It was distantly followed by Italy (X units), committing a 5% share of total imports. The following importers - Austria (X units), Sweden (X units), Russia (X units), Poland (X units), Norway (X units), Switzerland (X units) and the Czech Republic (X units) - together made up 19% of total imports.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for the Netherlands (with a CAGR of +23.1%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest water-skis and surfboards importing markets in Europe were Germany ($X), France ($X) and the Netherlands ($X), together comprising 43% of total imports. The UK, Spain, Austria, Italy, Switzerland, Poland, Sweden, the Czech Republic, Norway and Russia lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 43%.
The Czech Republic, with a CAGR of +23.5%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the import price in Europe amounted to $X per unit, stabilizing at the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when the import price increased by 4.9% against the previous year. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per unit. From 2014 to 2022, the import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Switzerland ($X per unit), while Russia ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Czech Republic (+3.8%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
