The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +2.1% from 2012 to 2021; the trend pattern remained consistent, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being observed in certain years. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In 2021, Germany (X units) and Belgium (X units) were the largest exporters of wheelchairs in Europe, together mixing up 44% of total exports. The Netherlands (X units) took the next position in the ranking, followed by Sweden (X units), the UK (X units), France (X units) and Poland (X units). All these countries together took approx. 40% share of total exports.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($X per unit), while Belgium ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.7% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when imports increased by 18%. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at X units in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, wheelchair imports soared to $X in 2021. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +3.7% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern remained consistent, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Imports by Country

In 2021, the UK (X units) and Germany (X units) were the key importers of wheelchairs in Europe, together finishing at near 37% of total imports. France (X units) ranks next in terms of the total imports with an 8.5% share, followed by Spain (7.9%), Italy (7.3%), Belgium (6.8%), the Netherlands (6.1%) and Russia (6%). The following importers - Poland (X units), Austria (X units) and Denmark (X units) - together made up 8.5% of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Poland (with a CAGR of +13.1%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest wheelchair importing markets in Europe were Germany ($X), the UK ($X) and France ($X), together accounting for 41% of total imports. The Netherlands, Belgium, Italy, Spain, Russia, Poland, Austria and Denmark lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 38%.

Poland, with a CAGR of +17.7%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the import price in Europe amounted to $X per unit, surging by 8.2% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The level of import peaked at $X per unit in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Austria ($X per unit), while Spain ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
