Exports by Country
The shipments of the three major exporters of wooden particle board, namely Germany, Poland and Greece, represented more than half of total export. Spain (X cubic meters) took the next position in the ranking, followed by Belgium (X cubic meters) and Lithuania (X cubic meters). All these countries together held near 17% share of total exports. The Netherlands (X cubic meters), Italy (X cubic meters), Denmark (X cubic meters), Bulgaria (X cubic meters) and Portugal (X cubic meters) held a relatively small share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Bulgaria (with a CAGR of +117.7%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Germany ($X) remains the largest wooden particle board supplier in Europe, comprising 46% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Poland ($X), with a 12% share of total exports. It was followed by Greece, with a 7.5% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Germany amounted to +14.9%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Poland (+25.5% per year) and Greece (-5.1% per year).

Imports in Europe
In 2021, after two years of decline, there was significant growth in overseas purchases of wooden particle board, when their volume increased by 14% to X cubic meters. Overall, imports, however, recorded a deep contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when imports increased by 23%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X cubic meters. From 2015 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, wooden particle board imports soared to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed a abrupt decline. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
In 2021, the UK (X cubic meters) was the main importer of wooden particle board, mixing up 36% of total imports. France (X cubic meters) took the second position in the ranking, followed by Greece (X cubic meters), Denmark (X cubic meters), the Netherlands (X cubic meters) and Sweden (X cubic meters). All these countries together took near 44% share of total imports. Switzerland (X cubic meters), Latvia (X cubic meters), Austria (X cubic meters) and Germany (X cubic meters) took a minor share of total imports.
Imports into the UK increased at an average annual rate of +31.6% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Latvia (+43.5%), Greece (+30.2%), Denmark (+29.3%), France (+4.8%) and Switzerland (+3.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Latvia emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Europe, with a CAGR of +43.5% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Sweden (-1.9%), Austria (-14.7%), the Netherlands (-22.9%) and Germany (-26.5%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of the UK (+34 p.p.), Greece (+11 p.p.), Denmark (+9.9 p.p.), France (+7.5 p.p.), Latvia (+3.8 p.p.) and Switzerland (+2.3 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2021, the share of Austria (-4.7 p.p.), Germany (-19.8 p.p.) and the Netherlands (-24.2 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, the UK ($X), Switzerland ($X) and France ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, with a combined 53% share of total imports. These countries were followed by Austria, Greece, Sweden, Latvia, the Netherlands, Germany and Denmark, which together accounted for a further 36%.
Latvia, with a CAGR of +35.1%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The import price in Europe stood at $X per cubic meter in 2021, with an increase of 23% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, continues to indicate a slight descent. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 an increase of 24%. The level of import peaked at $X per cubic meter in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Switzerland ($X per cubic meter), while Denmark ($X per cubic meter) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Austria (+7.4%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
