In 2022, overseas shipments of yautia decreased by -73.6% to X tons for the first time since 2016, thus ending a five-year rising trend. Over the period under review, exports, however, continue to indicate significant growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 3,244%. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2021, and then fell dramatically in the following year.
In value terms, yautia (cocoyam) exports dropped dramatically to $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, continue to indicate significant growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 2,680% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X in 2021, and then declined rapidly in the following year.
Exports by Country
In 2022, Spain (X tons), Belgium (X tons) and the Netherlands (X tons) was the largest exporter of yautia in Europe, constituting 100% of total export.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for the Netherlands (with a CAGR of +38.6%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the Netherlands ($X), Spain ($X) and Belgium ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2022, with a combined 99% share of total exports.
The Netherlands, with a CAGR of +37.0%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, among the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
In 2022, the export price in Europe amounted to $X per ton, with an increase of 43% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, recorded a slight descent. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 an increase of 49%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2017 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($X per ton), while Belgium ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Belgium (+10.4%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.
Yautia (Cocoyam) Imports
Imports in Europe
In 2022, purchases abroad of yautia decreased by -36.7% to X tons for the first time since 2016, thus ending a five-year rising trend. In general, imports, however, enjoyed a prominent expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 52%. Over the period under review, (cocoyam) imports reached the maximum at X tons in 2021, and then contracted dramatically in the following year.
In value terms, yautia (cocoyam) imports contracted notably to $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, posted buoyant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when imports increased by 81% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X in 2021, and then contracted remarkably in the following year.
Imports by Country
The Netherlands (X tons) and France (X tons) were the major importers of yautia in 2022, finishing at near 36% and 26% of total imports, respectively. Spain (X tons) ranks next in terms of the total imports with a 15% share, followed by Belgium (11%) and the UK (5.4%). Italy (X tons) and Norway (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Belgium (with a CAGR of +24.2%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the Netherlands ($X), France ($X) and Spain ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, together accounting for 79% of total imports. The UK, Belgium, Italy and Norway lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 19%.
In terms of the main importing countries, Belgium, with a CAGR of +20.1%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The import price in Europe stood at $X per ton in 2022, picking up by 14% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when the import price increased by 26%. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the UK ($X per ton), while Belgium ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Norway (+4.1%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
