Sweden (X tons) was the main destination for envelope exports from Finland, with a 84% share of total exports. Moreover, envelope exports to Sweden exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Latvia (X tons), eightfold. Estonia (X tons) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 2.5% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Sweden stood at -1.0%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Latvia (+49.6% per year) and Estonia (+9.1% per year).
In value terms, Sweden ($X) remains the key foreign market for envelopes exports from Finland, comprising 62% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Latvia ($X), with an 18% share of total exports. It was followed by Estonia, with a 6.4% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value to Sweden totaled -3.1%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Latvia (+40.6% per year) and Estonia (+11.6% per year).

Over the period under review, the export price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 when the average export price increased by 55% against the previous year. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2020, and then reduced remarkably in the following year.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Russia ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Sweden ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Kazakhstan (+30.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Finland
In 2021, purchases abroad of envelopes was finally on the rise to reach X tons after four years of decline. Over the period under review, imports posted a strong increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 when imports increased by 90%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, envelope imports expanded modestly to $X in 2021. In general, imports saw prominent growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 when imports increased by 37% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at $X in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
In 2021, Poland (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of envelope to Finland, accounting for a 62% share of total imports. Moreover, envelope imports from Poland exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Sweden (X tons), twofold. The third position in this ranking was held by Germany (X tons), with a 3% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Poland amounted to +29.1%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Sweden (+12.4% per year) and Germany (-5.3% per year).
In value terms, Poland ($X), Sweden ($X) and Germany ($X) appeared to be the largest envelope suppliers to Finland, with a combined 90% share of total imports. These countries were followed by Malaysia and Estonia, which together accounted for a further 3.6%.
Malaysia, with a CAGR of +315.3%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Estonia ($X per ton), while the price for Poland ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Malaysia (+10.2%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
