Russia (X tons) was the main destination for crude glycerol exports from Finland, with a 94% share of total exports. Moreover, crude glycerol exports to Russia exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Poland (X tons), more than tenfold.

After two years of growth, supplies from abroad of crude glycerol, glycerine waters and lyes decreased by -36.3% to X tons in 2021. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate a abrupt shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when imports increased by 831% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, crude glycerol imports stood at $X in 2021. In general, imports recorded a abrupt downturn. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 with an increase of 408%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
In 2021, Norway (X tons) constituted the largest crude glycerol supplier to Finland, accounting for a 88% share of total imports. Moreover, crude glycerol imports from Norway exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Germany (X tons), more than tenfold. The third position in this ranking was taken by the UK (X tons), with a 1.7% share.
