Hairpin Market Size in Finland

The Finnish hairpin market surged to $X in 2021, with an increase of 63% against the previous year. This figure reflects the total revenues of producers and importers (excluding logistics costs, retail marketing costs, and retailers' margins, which will be included in the final consumer price). Over the period under review, consumption, however, recorded a perceptible descent. Hairpin consumption peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, consumption failed to regain momentum.

In 2021, exports of hairpins, curling pins, curling grips and hair-curlers from Finland declined rapidly to X tons, waning by -32.9% on the previous year. In general, exports, however, enjoyed perceptible growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 217%. The exports peaked at X tons in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, hairpin exports shrank dramatically to $X in 2021. Overall, exports, however, continue to indicate strong growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when exports increased by 222% against the previous year. The exports peaked at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

Sweden (X kg), Estonia (X kg) and Latvia (X kg) were the main destinations of hairpin exports from Finland, with a combined 71% share of total exports. These countries were followed by Lithuania, Germany, Denmark, Russia, Norway and the United States, which together accounted for a further 26%.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Lithuania (with a CAGR of +82.1%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Sweden ($X), Estonia ($X) and Lithuania ($X) constituted the largest markets for hairpin exported from Finland worldwide, together accounting for 74% of total exports. Germany, Denmark, the United States, Latvia, Norway and Russia lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 22%.

Germany, with a CAGR of +192.5%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, in terms of the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

The average hairpin export price stood at $X per ton in 2021, surging by 14% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price continues to indicate a strong expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 an increase of 61%. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2021, the country with the highest price was the United States ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Russia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Germany (+37.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Hairpin Imports

Imports into Finland

Hairpin imports into Finland skyrocketed to X tons in 2021, with an increase of 38% compared with the previous year. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate a perceptible shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when imports increased by 54%. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, hairpin imports soared to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when imports increased by 82% against the previous year. Imports peaked at $X in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

In 2021, China (X tons) constituted the largest hairpin supplier to Finland, accounting for a 57% share of total imports. Moreover, hairpin imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Italy (X tons), sevenfold. Germany (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 7.4% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from China stood at -4.8%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Italy (+15.1% per year) and Germany (-10.3% per year).

In value terms, China ($X), Estonia ($X) and Germany ($X) appeared to be the largest hairpin suppliers to Finland, with a combined 68% share of total imports.

In terms of the main suppliers, Estonia, with a CAGR of +34.7%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the average hairpin import price amounted to $X per ton, increasing by 9.8% against the previous year. Over the last nine-year period, it increased at an average annual rate of +3.5%. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 an increase of 48%. The import price peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.

Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was Estonia ($X per ton), while the price for Denmark ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Belgium (+24.6%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
