Headphone Market Size in Finland

In 2022, the Finnish headphone market decreased by -8.1% to $X, falling for the second consecutive year after four years of growth. In general, consumption, however, saw a buoyant increase. Over the period under review, the market reached the maximum level at $X in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, consumption failed to regain momentum.

In 2022, after two years of growth, there was significant decline in shipments abroad of headphones, when their volume decreased by -42.9% to X units. Overall, exports, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by 58% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X units, and then dropped notably in the following year.

In value terms, headphone exports contracted to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, total exports indicated measured growth from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +2.3% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +13.4% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 55%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2021, and then shrank in the following year.

Sweden (X units), Lithuania (X units) and the Czech Republic (X units) were the main destinations of headphone exports from Finland, with a combined 47% share of total exports. Germany, Russia, Kazakhstan, the UK, Taiwan (Chinese), Estonia, the Netherlands, Denmark, Kyrgyzstan and Switzerland lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 38%.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Kazakhstan (with a CAGR of +133.2%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average headphone export price stood at $X per unit in 2022, jumping by 60% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.1%. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the maximum at $X per unit in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Kyrgyzstan ($X per unit), while the average price for exports to Lithuania ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Taiwan (Chinese) (+3.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, supplies from abroad of headphones decreased by -14.1% to X units for the first time since 2016, thus ending a five-year rising trend. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a resilient increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 143% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X units in 2021, and then contracted in the following year.

In value terms, headphone imports shrank to $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate buoyant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 48%. Imports peaked at $X in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In 2022, China (X units) constituted the largest headphone supplier to Finland, accounting for a 76% share of total imports. Moreover, headphone imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Sweden (X units), more than tenfold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Malaysia (X units), with a 4.2% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume from China stood at +12.1%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Sweden (+10.2% per year) and Malaysia (+61.7% per year).

In value terms, China ($X) constituted the largest supplier of headphones to Finland, comprising 76% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Sweden ($X), with a 6.9% share of total imports. It was followed by Malaysia, with a 4.2% share.
