From 2015 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, lactam exports surged to $X in 2021. Overall, exports posted a notable increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 when exports increased by 112%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2015 to 2021, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.

The United States (X tons), Israel (X kg) and Canada (X kg) were the main destinations of lactam exports from Finland, with a combined 75% share of total exports. Sweden, Portugal, Germany, Turkey and India lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 20%.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Sweden (with a CAGR of +93.6%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when imports increased by 50% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, lactam imports declined to $X in 2021. In general, imports, however, recorded a dramatic shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 66% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2017 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

In 2021, Germany (X tons) was the main supplier of lactam to Finland, accounting for a 93% share of total imports. It was followed by Denmark (X tons), with a 2.6% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Germany amounted to -1.9%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Denmark (+5.6% per year) and Austria (+38.1% per year).

In value terms, Germany ($X) constituted the largest supplier of lactams from heterocyclic compounds to Finland, comprising 62% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Denmark ($X), with a 16% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from Germany stood at -5.5%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Denmark (+13.9% per year) and Austria (+22.8% per year).
