Cement Pipe Market Size in Finland

In 2022, after three years of growth, there was decline in the Finnish cement pipe market, when its value decreased by -2% to $X. In general, consumption continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. Cement pipe consumption peaked at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, consumption remained at a lower figure.

In 2022, shipments abroad of pipes and other articles of cement increased by 43% to X tons, rising for the second consecutive year after two years of decline. In general, exports enjoyed prominent growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when exports increased by 450%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X tons. From 2019 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, cement pipe exports soared to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports posted a significant expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 273%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure in 2022 and are likely to see steady growth in the immediate term.

Exports by Country

Estonia (X tons) was the main destination for cement pipe exports from Finland, accounting for a 64% share of total exports. Moreover, cement pipe exports to Estonia exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Sweden (X tons), sixfold. Russia (X tons) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 9% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Estonia amounted to +27.0%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Sweden (+1.0% per year) and Russia (+7.5% per year).

In value terms, Estonia ($X) remains the key foreign market for pipes and other articles of cement exports from Finland, comprising 38% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Russia ($X), with an 18% share of total exports. It was followed by Latvia, with a 14% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value to Estonia stood at +37.3%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Russia (+21.3% per year) and Latvia (+51.8% per year).

In 2022, the average cement pipe export price amounted to $X per ton, growing by 19% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price recorded a strong increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 an increase of 97%. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the peak figure in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Lithuania ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Iceland ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

For the third year in a row, Finland recorded growth in purchases abroad of pipes and other articles of cement, which increased by 3% to X tons in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a perceptible decrease. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 45% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, cement pipe imports rose markedly to $X in 2022. Overall, total imports indicated a tangible increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.1% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +55.9% against 2020 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 46% against the previous year. Imports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.

Imports by Country

Germany (X tons), Spain (X tons) and Canada (X tons) were the main suppliers of cement pipe imports to Finland, with a combined 57% share of total imports. These countries were followed by Estonia, Sweden, China, Poland, Turkey and Norway, which together accounted for a further 38%.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Turkey (with a CAGR of +126.1%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Germany ($X), Spain ($X) and Estonia ($X) appeared to be the largest cement pipe suppliers to Finland, with a combined 69% share of total imports. China, Poland, Canada, Sweden, Turkey and Norway lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 24%.

In 2022, the average cement pipe import price amounted to $X per ton, picking up by 4% against the previous year. Overall, import price indicated buoyant growth from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +7.1% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, cement pipe import price increased by +4.7% against 2020 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 an increase of 31%. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Norway ($X per ton), while the price for Canada ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
