Germany (X tons), Italy (X tons) and Sweden (X tons) were the main destinations of polypropylene in primary forms exports from Finland, together accounting for 42% of total exports. Austria, the Czech Republic, the UK, Turkey, Serbia, Belgium, Switzerland, Norway, China and Poland lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 42%.

In 2022, supplies from abroad of polypropylene in primary forms decreased by -18.2% to X tons for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year rising trend. Over the period under review, imports showed a noticeable setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 24%. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, polypropylene in primary forms imports dropped significantly to $X in 2022. In general, imports saw a pronounced reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 38% against the previous year. Imports peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

In 2022, Germany (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of polypropylene in primary forms to Finland, with a 25% share of total imports. Moreover, polypropylene in primary forms imports from Germany exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Belgium (X tons), twofold. The third position in this ranking was held by Austria (X tons), with a 10% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume from Germany stood at -2.9%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Belgium (-12.2% per year) and Austria (+5.6% per year).

Among the main suppliers, Russia, with a CAGR of +43.2%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Overall, the import price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when the average import price increased by 36%. Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Denmark ($X per ton), while the price for Saudi Arabia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
