In 2021, the Finnish postcard market was finally on the rise to reach $X after two years of decline. Overall, consumption showed a relatively flat trend pattern. Postcard consumption peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, consumption remained at a lower figure.

Postcard exports from Finland skyrocketed to X tons in 2021, rising by 55% compared with the previous year's figure. In general, exports, however, recorded a abrupt decrease. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, postcard exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Overall, exports, however, saw a abrupt shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when exports increased by 107%. The exports peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

Sweden (X kg), the UK (X kg) and Japan (X kg) were the main destinations of postcard exports from Finland, with a combined 73% share of total exports. These countries were followed by Norway, Estonia, the United States, Russia, China, Australia and South Korea, which together accounted for a further 20%.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for China (with a CAGR of +22.6%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 an increase of 47%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2020 to 2021, the average export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably country of destination: the country with the highest price was the United States ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Estonia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to China (+20.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

For the fourth consecutive year, Finland recorded decline in supplies from abroad of printed or illustrated postcards and printed cards, which decreased by -10.6% to X tons in 2021. Over the period under review, imports recorded a drastic downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when imports increased by 17% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X tons in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, postcard imports amounted to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 42%. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

The UK (X tons), China (X tons) and the Netherlands (X tons) were the main suppliers of postcard imports to Finland, together comprising 92% of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by the Netherlands (with a CAGR of +18.5%), while imports for the other leaders experienced mixed trend patterns.

In value terms, the Netherlands ($X) constituted the largest supplier of printed or illustrated postcards and printed cards to Finland, comprising 61% of total imports.
