Aramids Staple Market Size in France

In 2021, the French aramids staple market was finally on the rise to reach $X after five years of decline. In general, consumption, however, recorded a pronounced contraction. Aramids staple consumption peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, consumption failed to regain momentum.

In 2021, overseas shipments of aramids staple decreased by -24.5% to X tons, falling for the second year in a row after three years of growth. Overall, exports, however, showed a moderate increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when exports increased by 80%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, aramids staple exports declined remarkably to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when exports increased by 43% against the previous year. The exports peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

The United States (X tons), Belgium (X tons) and Turkey (X tons) were the main destinations of aramids staple exports from France, together comprising 78% of total exports. Germany, Portugal, Morocco, Bulgaria, Canada, Spain and India lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 19%.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Portugal (with a CAGR of +33.0%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, the average aramids staple export price amounted to $X per ton, declining by -6.1% against the previous year. In general, the export price showed a perceptible decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 an increase of 19% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the peak figure at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Portugal ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Morocco ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

In 2021, imports of aramids staple into France soared to X tons, jumping by 38% on 2020 figures. Over the period under review, total imports indicated noticeable growth from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.1% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports decreased by -5.0% against 2019 indices. In 2021, Spain (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of aramids staple to France, with a 43% share of total imports. Moreover, aramids staple imports from Spain exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Belgium (X tons), twofold. The third position in this ranking was held by the Netherlands (X tons), with a 14% share.
