Belgium (X tons) was the main destination for brewing dregs exports from France, accounting for a 68% share of total exports. Moreover, brewing dregs exports to Belgium exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, the Netherlands (X tons), sixfold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Germany (X tons), with a 9.9% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume to Belgium amounted to +5.4%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: the Netherlands (-4.3% per year) and Germany (-0.8% per year).

Imports into France

After two years of growth, supplies from abroad of brewing or distilling dregs and waste decreased by -1.4% to X tons in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a remarkable increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 when imports increased by 48% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X tons in 2021, and then contracted modestly in the following year.

In value terms, brewing dregs imports rose notably to $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, showed strong growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 39%. Imports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.

Imports by Country

The Netherlands (X tons), Belgium (X tons) and Germany (X tons) were the main suppliers of brewing dregs imports to France, together comprising 86% of total imports. Latvia, Spain, Bulgaria and Romania lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 12%.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Bulgaria (with a CAGR of +21.6%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest brewing dregs suppliers to France were the Netherlands ($X), Belgium ($X) and Germany ($X), together accounting for 89% of total imports. Latvia, Bulgaria, Romania and Spain lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 9.1%.
