Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, cotton yarn exports fell to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports continue to indicate a perceptible contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when exports increased by 16% against the previous year. The exports peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.
Exports by Country
Belgium (X tons), Morocco (X tons) and Tunisia (X tons) were the main destinations of cotton yarn exports from France, together comprising 55% of total exports. Turkey, the United States, Germany, Italy, Spain, Bulgaria, Switzerland and Romania lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 30%.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Turkey (with a CAGR of +24.6%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced a decline.
In value terms, the United States ($X) remains the key foreign market for cotton yarn exports from France, comprising 23% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Morocco ($X), with an 8.5% share of total exports. It was followed by Italy, with a 6.7% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to the United States was relatively modest. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Morocco (-0.9% per year) and Italy (-8.4% per year).

The average cotton yarn export price stood at $X per ton in 2022, reducing by -5.4% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 an increase of 27%. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the maximum at $X per ton in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the United States ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Belgium ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Germany (+4.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into France
In 2022, purchases abroad of cotton yarn increased by 1.9% to X tons, rising for the second year in a row after two years of decline. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.1% over the period from 2012 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations being observed in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 31% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, cotton yarn imports rose remarkably to $X in 2022. In general, total imports indicated tangible growth from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +2.2% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +79.0% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 56%. Imports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

Turkey (X tons), Belgium (X tons) and Portugal (X tons) were the main suppliers of cotton yarn imports to France, together accounting for 59% of total imports. Spain, Italy, Germany, Poland, India, Pakistan, Greece and Egypt lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 37%.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Poland (with a CAGR of +21.4%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest cotton yarn suppliers to France were Turkey ($X), Belgium ($X) and Portugal ($X), together comprising 55% of total imports. Italy, Germany, Spain, Poland, Pakistan, India, Greece and Egypt lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 39%.
