Crane Market Size in France

In 2022, the French crane market increased by 161% to $X for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year declining trend. In general, consumption, however, showed a deep downturn. Over the period under review, the market hit record highs at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, consumption stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, crane production shrank to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. The total output value increased at an average annual rate of +2.0% from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 56%. Over the period under review, production reached the maximum level at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, production failed to regain momentum.

Overall, total exports indicated a remarkable increase from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +6.1% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +20.3% against 2020 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 when exports increased by 42%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at X units in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, crane exports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, total exports indicated a remarkable increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +6.2% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +53.5% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 37% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Belgium (X units), Germany (X units) and the UK (X units) were the main destinations of crane exports from France, together accounting for 45% of total exports. The Netherlands, Switzerland, Spain, Italy, Sweden, Israel, the United States, Norway, Austria and Bulgaria lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 32%.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Bulgaria (with a CAGR of +75.5%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest markets for crane exported from France were the UK ($X), Germany ($X) and Belgium ($X), with a combined 50% share of total exports. In 2022, the average crane export price amounted to $X per unit, rising by 2.8% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when the average export price increased by 24% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $X per unit in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the UK ($X per unit), while the average price for exports to Bulgaria ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

In 2022, the amount of derricks, cranes, mobile lifting frames, straddle carriers and work trucks fitted with a crane imported into France declined to X units, which is down by -5.7% against 2021 figures. Over the period under review, imports, however, enjoyed a noticeable expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 with an increase of 45%. Imports peaked at X units in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, crane imports fell to $X in 2022. In general, total imports indicated a prominent expansion from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.3% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +81.3% against 2014 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when imports increased by 24%. Imports peaked at $X in 2021, and then contracted in the following year.

Germany (X units), Italy (X units) and Indonesia (X units) were the main suppliers of crane imports to France, with a combined 59% share of total imports. China, Austria, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Belgium, Poland and the UK lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 34%.

The average crane import price stood at $X per unit in 2022, dropping by -2.9% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when the average import price increased by 26% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $X per unit in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Austria ($X per unit), while the price for Portugal ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
