China (X tons) was the main destination for baby food exports from France, with a 22% share of total exports. Moreover, baby food exports to China exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, the UK (X tons), twofold. The third position in this ranking was held by Algeria (X tons), with a 7.4% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to China stood at +7.4%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Algeria (+1.2% per year) and the UK (+10.3% per year).

Prices varied noticeably country of destination: the country with the highest price was China ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Italy ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

In 2021, after two years of growth, there was significant decline in overseas purchases of food preparations for infants, when their volume decreased by -11.8% to X tons. In general, imports showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 with an increase of 24% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, baby food imports reduced slightly to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, total imports indicated a tangible increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +2.8% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +47.5% against 2014 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 41%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X, and then reduced in the following year.

Ireland (X tons), Spain (X tons) and Germany (X tons) were the main suppliers of baby food imports to France, together accounting for 67% of total imports. Poland, Luxembourg, Italy, Switzerland and the Netherlands lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 29%.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Luxembourg (with a CAGR of +96.5%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Ireland ($X), Luxembourg ($X) and Germany ($X) constituted the largest baby food suppliers to France, with a combined 64% share of total imports.
Luxembourg, with a CAGR of +123.6%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, among the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 an increase of 36% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the peak figure in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Luxembourg ($X per ton), while the price for Spain ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
