In 2021, the French plastic furniture market was finally on the rise to reach $X after five years of decline. The market value increased at an average annual rate of +2.1% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. Over the period under review, the market hit record highs at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, consumption remained at a lower figure.

In 2021, shipments abroad of furniture of plastic was finally on the rise to reach X units for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year declining trend. In general, exports, however, continue to indicate a pronounced curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 49% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X units. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, plastic furniture exports contracted notably to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports, however, saw a pronounced curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when exports increased by 46%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2020 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

Germany (X units), the UK (X units) and the Netherlands (X units) were the main destinations of plastic furniture exports from France, together comprising 44% of total exports. These countries were followed by Spain, Italy, Belgium, Switzerland, the Czech Republic, French Polynesia, Tunisia, Lithuania, Poland and the United States, which together accounted for a further 39%.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were in French Polynesia (with a CAGR of +14.9%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest markets for plastic furniture exported from France were Germany ($X), the UK ($X) and Spain ($X), together comprising 35% of total exports. These countries were followed by Italy, Belgium, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Poland, Tunisia, the United States, the Czech Republic, French Polynesia and Lithuania, which together accounted for a further 36%.

Tunisia, with a CAGR of +24.5%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, among the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average plastic furniture export price stood at $X per unit in 2021, shrinking by -25.6% against the previous year. Overall, the export price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 when the average export price increased by 51%. The export price peaked at $X per unit in 2020, and then dropped markedly in the following year.

Prices varied noticeably country of destination: the country with the highest price was the United States ($X per unit), while the average price for exports to Lithuania ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

Plastic furniture imports into France soared to X units in 2021, picking up by 28% compared with the year before. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.4% over the period from 2012 to 2021; the trend pattern remained consistent, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations throughout the analyzed period. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, plastic furniture imports surged to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 an increase of 22%. The import price peaked at $X per unit in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was Poland ($X per unit), while the price for Italy ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
