Groundnuts Market Size in France

After two years of growth, the French groundnuts market decreased by -12.7% to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, the total consumption indicated temperate growth from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.4% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. In general, exports, however, saw a resilient expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when exports increased by 2,790%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at X tons in 2021, and then declined dramatically in the following year.

In value terms, groundnuts exports declined significantly to $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when exports increased by 2,430% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In 2022, supplies from abroad of ground-nut (in-shell) decreased by -16.9% to X tons for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year rising trend. Over the period under review, total imports indicated a measured increase from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.5% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 25%. Imports peaked at X tons in 2021, and then contracted remarkably in the following year.

In value terms, groundnuts imports reduced to $X in 2022. Overall, total imports indicated a noticeable increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.4% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +31.5% against 2014 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 19%. Imports peaked at $X in 2021, and then dropped in the following year.

The United States (X tons), Togo (X tons) and Egypt (X tons) were the main suppliers of groundnuts imports to France, together accounting for 70% of total imports. Belgium, China, Cote d'Ivoire, the Netherlands and Mali lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 25%.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Belgium (with a CAGR of +38.8%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2012; afterwards, it flattened through to 2022.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($X per ton), while the price for Cote d'Ivoire ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
