In general, consumption, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. In terms of the main countries of destination, Ireland, with a CAGR of +23.6%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the average primary cell and battery export price amounted to $X per unit, increasing by 2.7% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, showed a deep setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when the average export price increased by 35% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the peak figure at $X per unit in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the United States ($X per unit), while the average price for exports to Denmark ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Belgium (+6.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into France
After two years of growth, overseas purchases of primary cells and batteries decreased by -0.3% to X units in 2022. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.2% from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 29%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X units, leveling off in the following year.
In value terms, primary cell and battery imports shrank to $X in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +2.0% from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 24% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X, and then dropped modestly in the following year.
Imports by Country
In 2022, Belgium (X units) constituted the largest supplier of primary cell and battery to France, with a 43% share of total imports. Moreover, primary cell and battery imports from Belgium exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, China (X units), threefold. The UK (X units) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 14% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume from Belgium amounted to +21.5%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: China (-1.3% per year) and the UK (+24.2% per year).

Import Prices by Country
The average primary cell and battery import price stood at $X per unit in 2022, reducing by -2.4% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price continues to indicate a noticeable decline. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 an increase of 11% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $X per unit in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.
