Quinoa Market Size in France
The French quinoa market rose remarkably to $X in 2021, growing by 5.8% against the previous year. This figure reflects the total revenues of producers and importers (excluding logistics costs, retail marketing costs, and retailers' margins, which will be included in the final consumer price). The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, consumption decreased by -20.8% against 2019 indices. Quinoa consumption peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, consumption failed to regain momentum.

In 2021, approx. X tons of quinoa were exported from France; reducing by -39.4% on the previous year. In general, exports, however, enjoyed a slight increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when exports increased by 50%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, quinoa exports dropped remarkably to $X in 2021. Overall, total exports indicated a prominent increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +6.1% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports decreased by -35.5% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 when exports increased by 89%. Italy (X tons) was the main destination for quinoa exports from France, with a 34% share of total exports. Moreover, quinoa exports to Italy exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, the UK (X tons), threefold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Belgium (X tons), with a 9.2% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume to Italy amounted to -2.6%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: the UK (+5.4% per year) and Belgium (-9.4% per year).
In value terms, the largest markets for quinoa exported from France were Italy ($X), the UK ($X) and Belgium ($X), with a combined 49% share of total exports. These countries were followed by Switzerland, the United States, Luxembourg, Morocco, the Netherlands, Spain, Portugal, Hungary, Hong Kong SAR and Lebanon, which together accounted for a further 33%.
In terms of the main countries of destination, Hong Kong SAR, with a CAGR of +84.4%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the average quinoa export price amounted to $X per ton, increasing by 14% against the previous year. Overall, the export price saw a temperate expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 an increase of 106%. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Morocco ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Lebanon ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Hungary (+11.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into France
In 2021, overseas purchases of quinoa decreased by -3.4% to X tons, falling for the second year in a row after eight years of growth. In general, imports, however, saw a prominent increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 when imports increased by 23% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, quinoa imports shrank to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, total imports indicated a strong expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.3% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports decreased by -28.0% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when imports increased by 67%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2015 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
Bolivia (X tons), Peru (X tons) and Italy (X tons) were the main suppliers of quinoa imports to France, with a combined 65% share of total imports. Belgium, Poland, the Netherlands and Germany lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 32%.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Poland (with a CAGR of +265.9%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest quinoa suppliers to France were Bolivia ($X), Peru ($X) and Poland ($X), together comprising 60% of total imports.
Poland, with a CAGR of +329.2%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The average quinoa import price stood at $X per ton in 2021, reducing by -7.6% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price saw a noticeable reduction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 an increase of 61%. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2015 to 2021, the average import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Poland ($X per ton), while the price for Peru ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Poland (+17.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
