Imports into France
In 2021, purchases abroad of semiconductor light emitting diodes (LEDs) increased by 39% to X units, rising for the fifth year in a row after two years of decline. In general, imports saw a buoyant expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when imports increased by 110% against the previous year. Imports peaked in 2021 and are likely to see steady growth in the near future.
In value terms, semiconductor LED imports soared to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of 70%. Imports peaked in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.
Imports by Country
In 2021, China (X units) constituted the largest supplier of semiconductor LED to France, with a 42% share of total imports. Moreover, semiconductor LED imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, the Netherlands (X units), threefold. Germany (X units) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 14% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from China stood at +7.2%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: the Netherlands (+34.5% per year) and Germany (+0.1% per year).

In terms of the main suppliers, Croatia, with a CAGR of +96.2%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The average semiconductor LED import price stood at $X per unit in 2021, with a decrease of -8.5% against the previous year. Overall, the import price continues to indicate a deep downturn. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 when the average import price increased by 10% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $X per unit in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per unit), while the price for Croatia ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Germany (-0.9%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
