Non-Chicken Table Egg Market Size in France

After three years of decline, the French non-chicken table egg market increased by 293% to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, consumption, however, showed a sharp reduction. Non-chicken table egg consumption peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, consumption failed to regain momentum.

Non-Chicken Table Egg Production in France

In value terms, non-chicken table egg production declined slightly to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. In general, production, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 with an increase of 21%. As a result, production attained the peak level of $X. From 2018 to 2021, production growth remained at a somewhat lower figure.

For the fourth consecutive year, France recorded growth in shipments abroad of table eggs, excluding hen eggs, which increased by 6.8% to X tons in 2021. In general, exports continue to indicate a resilient expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when exports increased by 75% against the previous year. The exports peaked in 2021 and are likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, non-chicken table egg exports dropped to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports showed a moderate increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 96%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X, and then declined in the following year.

Exports by Country

Germany (X tons), Spain (X tons) and Belgium (X tons) were the main destinations of non-chicken table egg exports from France, together accounting for 78% of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were in Belgium (with a CAGR of +33.1%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Germany ($X), Belgium ($X) and Spain ($X) appeared to be the largest markets for non-chicken table egg exported from France worldwide, with a combined 71% share of total exports.

Belgium, with a CAGR of +20.0%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, in terms of the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average non-chicken table egg export price stood at $X per ton in 2021, which is down by -20.2% against the previous year. Overall, the export price saw a noticeable decline. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 an increase of 35%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2014 to 2021, the average export prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably country of destination: the country with the highest price was the UK ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Spain ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the UK (+22.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

Imports into France

In 2021, purchases abroad of table eggs, excluding hen eggs increased by 17% to X tons, rising for the fourth year in a row after two years of decline. Overall, imports, however, recorded a abrupt decrease. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, non-chicken table egg imports expanded significantly to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed a drastic downturn. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 34%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

In 2021, Spain (X tons) constituted the largest non-chicken table egg supplier to France, with a 76% share of total imports. Moreover, non-chicken table egg imports from Spain exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Belgium (X tons), sevenfold. The third position in this ranking was taken by the Netherlands (X tons), with an 8.7% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Spain totaled -1.6%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Belgium (+456.4% per year) and the Netherlands (-23.4% per year).

In value terms, Spain ($X) constituted the largest supplier of non-chicken table egg to France, comprising 78% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Belgium ($X), with an 11% share of total imports. It was followed by the Netherlands, with a 7.5% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value from Spain stood at -2.2%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Belgium (+359.4% per year) and the Netherlands (-26.1% per year).

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the average non-chicken table egg import price amounted to $X per ton, which is down by -2.4% against the previous year. Overall, the import price showed a mild shrinkage. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when the average import price increased by 34%. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Italy ($X per ton), while the price for Bulgaria ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Germany (+6.2%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
