In value terms, zinc ores and concentrates exports surged to $X in 2021. In general, exports continue to indicate prominent growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 71%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Exports by Country
Belgium (X tons), the Netherlands (X tons) and Norway (X tons) were the main destinations of zinc ores and concentrates exports from France, with a combined 83% share of total exports. Finland lagged somewhat behind, comprising a further 17%.

Imports into France
In 2021, purchases abroad of zinc ores and concentrates increased by 2.1% to X tons, rising for the second consecutive year after two years of decline. Over the period under review, imports showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when imports increased by 6.7% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X tons in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, zinc ores and concentrates imports stood at $X in 2021. Overall, total imports indicated a resilient expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.3% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports decreased by -16.2% against 2018 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 with an increase of 55% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

In 2021, Belgium (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of zinc ores and concentrates to France, accounting for a 77% share of total imports. Moreover, zinc ores and concentrates imports from Belgium exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Germany (X tons), fourfold. The third position in this ranking was held by the Netherlands (X tons), with a 3.3% share.

The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when the average import price increased by 50%. Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, the highest price was recorded for prices from Mexico ($X per ton) and Peru ($X per ton), while the price for Belgium ($X per ton) and South Korea ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Bolivia (+8.5%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
