Total exports indicated a strong increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +8.3% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports increased by +6.7% against 2018 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when exports increased by 33%. The level of export peaked in 2021 and is likely to see gradual growth in years to come.

The United Arab Emirates represented the main exporting country with an export of about X tons, which amounted to 73% of total exports. Oman (X tons) held a 13% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Saudi Arabia (13%).

Exports from the United Arab Emirates increased at an average annual rate of +9.8% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Oman (+51.3%) and Saudi Arabia (+4.8%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Oman emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in GCC, with a CAGR of +51.3% from 2012-2021. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Oman and the United Arab Emirates increased by +13 and +1.7 percentage points, respectively.

In value terms, the United Arab Emirates ($X) remains the largest anti-freezing preparations supplier in GCC, comprising 73% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Saudi Arabia ($X), with a 14% share of total exports.

Overall, imports recorded resilient growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 52% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked in 2021 and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Imports by Country

The United Arab Emirates was the main importing country with an import of about X tons, which finished at 55% of total imports. Saudi Arabia (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total imports with a 16% share, followed by Oman (13%) and Qatar (10%). The following importers - Bahrain (X tons) and Kuwait (X tons) - each reached a 6% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to anti-freezing preparations imports into the United Arab Emirates stood at +9.8%. At the same time, Saudi Arabia (+17.9%), Qatar (+16.4%), Oman (+16.1%) and Bahrain (+13.2%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Saudi Arabia emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in GCC, with a CAGR of +17.9% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Kuwait (-1.2%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Saudi Arabia (+6.2 p.p.), Oman (+4 p.p.) and Qatar (+3.2 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2021, the share of Kuwait (-5.5 p.p.) and the United Arab Emirates (-8.2 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, the United Arab Emirates ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported anti-freezing preparations and prepared de-icing fluids in GCC, comprising 55% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Saudi Arabia ($X), with a 19% share of total imports. It was followed by Oman, with a 12% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in the United Arab Emirates stood at +9.5%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Saudi Arabia (+11.5% per year) and Oman (+13.6% per year).

Import Prices by Country

The import price in GCC stood at $X per ton in 2021, surging by 5.9% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, showed a mild downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when the import price increased by 20% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices reached the maximum at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Bahrain ($X per ton), while Qatar ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
