The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 54%. The level of export peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

The United Arab Emirates was the main exporter of antibiotics in GCC, with the volume of exports amounting to X tons, which was approx. 66% of total exports in 2021. Oman (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total exports with a 27% share, followed by Saudi Arabia (5.6%).

The United Arab Emirates was also the fastest-growing in terms of the antibiotics exports, with a CAGR of +3.1% from 2012 to 2021. Saudi Arabia (-3.9%) and Oman (-20.3%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. The United Arab Emirates (+47 p.p.) and Saudi Arabia (+2.6 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Oman saw its share reduced by -50.7% from 2012 to 2021, respectively.

In value terms, the United Arab Emirates ($X) remains the largest antibiotic supplier in GCC, comprising 64% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Oman ($X), with a 24% share of total exports.

In the United Arab Emirates, antibiotic exports expanded at an average annual rate of +2.7% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Oman (-21.6% per year) and Saudi Arabia (-5.7% per year).

In 2021, the amount of antibiotics imported in GCC reduced dramatically to X tons, waning by -29.6% compared with 2020 figures. In general, imports recorded a abrupt slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 37%. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, antibiotic imports fell notably to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate a noticeable curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 39% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

The United Arab Emirates (X tons) and Saudi Arabia (X tons) dominates imports structure, together constituting 95% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Oman (X tons), making up a 4.6% share of total imports.

Among the main importing countries, Oman, with a CAGR of -1.2%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced a decline in the imports figures.

The import price in GCC stood at $X per ton in 2021, surging by 4.8% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2021, it increased at an average annual rate of +4.1%. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 an increase of 20%. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Saudi Arabia ($X per ton), while the United Arab Emirates ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
