Baby Carriage Market Size in GCC

The GCC baby carriage market reduced to $X in 2022, dropping by -6.5% against the previous year. The total consumption indicated a buoyant increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.4% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, consumption decreased by -7.7% against 2020 indices. Over the period under review, the market hit record highs at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, consumption stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, baby carriage production rose markedly to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. In general, production continues to indicate a significant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 1,061% against the previous year. The level of production peaked at $X in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, production failed to regain momentum.

For the fourth consecutive year, GCC recorded decline in shipments abroad of baby carriages, which decreased by -14.4% to X units in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, recorded a resilient expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when exports increased by 374% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X units. From 2019 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, baby carriage exports expanded to $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, recorded a buoyant increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 254% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X. From 2019 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

The United Arab Emirates represented the largest exporter of baby carriages in GCC, with the volume of exports recording X units, which was near 74% of total exports in 2022. Oman (X units) took the second position in the ranking, distantly followed by Saudi Arabia (X units). All these countries together took near 26% share of total exports.

Exports from the United Arab Emirates increased at an average annual rate of +9.1% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Oman (+15.3%) and Saudi Arabia (+6.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Oman emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in GCC, with a CAGR of +15.3% from 2012-2022. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Oman increased by +8.5 percentage points, while the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, the United Arab Emirates ($X) remains the largest baby carriage supplier in GCC, comprising 76% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Oman ($X), with a 17% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value in the United Arab Emirates stood at +6.8%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Oman (+23.4% per year) and Saudi Arabia (+19.1% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2022, the export price in GCC amounted to $X per unit, picking up by 20% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 an increase of 42%. The level of export peaked at $X per unit in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Saudi Arabia ($X per unit), while Oman ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Saudi Arabia (+11.4%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

Imports in GCC

In 2022, the amount of baby carriages imported in GCC shrank rapidly to X units, which is down by -29.7% compared with 2021 figures. In general, imports saw a abrupt decline. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when imports increased by 23%. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at X units in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, baby carriage imports contracted sharply to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports saw a noticeable setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 28% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

The United Arab Emirates prevails in imports structure, amounting to X units, which was approx. 74% of total imports in 2022. Kuwait (X units) ranks second in terms of the total imports with a 9.8% share, followed by Oman (7.4%) and Qatar (5.8%). Bahrain (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to baby carriage imports into the United Arab Emirates stood at -4.8%. At the same time, Oman (+7.9%) and Kuwait (+2.3%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Oman emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in GCC, with a CAGR of +7.9% from 2012-2022. Qatar experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Bahrain (-4.9%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of the United Arab Emirates (+22 p.p.), Kuwait (+6.4 p.p.), Oman (+5.9 p.p.) and Qatar (+3.3 p.p.) increased significantly, the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, the United Arab Emirates ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported baby carriages in GCC, comprising 66% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Qatar ($X), with a 13% share of total imports. It was followed by Kuwait, with a 13% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in the United Arab Emirates amounted to -1.7%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Qatar (+5.3% per year) and Kuwait (+7.2% per year).

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the import price in GCC amounted to $X per unit, waning by -10.7% against the previous year. Import price indicated a pronounced expansion from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +4.7% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when the import price increased by 13% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices hit record highs at $X per unit in 2021, and then declined in the following year.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Qatar ($X per unit), while Oman ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
