Bambara Bean Market Size in GCC

The GCC bambara bean market surged to $X in 2022, rising by 41% against the previous year. The total consumption indicated a pronounced expansion from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.1% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, consumption decreased by -12.1% against 2020 indices. After two years of growth, shipments abroad of bambara beans decreased by -1.2% to X tons in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, continue to indicate a strong increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when exports increased by 289%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at X tons in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, bambara bean exports surged to $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, enjoyed a strong expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 233%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at $X in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

The biggest shipments were from the United Arab Emirates (X tons), together recording 100% of total export.

The United Arab Emirates was also the fastest-growing in terms of the bambara beans exports, with a CAGR of +17.5% from 2012 to 2022. The shares of the largest exporters remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, the United Arab Emirates ($X) also remains the largest bambara bean supplier in GCC.

The export price in GCC stood at $X per ton in 2022, with an increase of 24% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, showed a mild slump. As there is only one major export destination, the average price level is determined by prices for the United Arab Emirates.

In 2022, purchases abroad of bambara beans was finally on the rise to reach X tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year declining trend. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a abrupt curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 with an increase of 199%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, bambara bean imports surged to $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, recorded a abrupt slump. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 with an increase of 313%. The level of import peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

In 2022, Qatar (X tons) was the main importer of bambara beans, creating 67% of total imports. The United Arab Emirates (X tons) held a 25% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Oman (5.6%). Kuwait (X kg) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Qatar was also the fastest-growing in terms of the bambara beans imports, with a CAGR of -4.5% from 2012 to 2022. The United Arab Emirates (-14.9%), Oman (-15.1%) and Kuwait (-30.9%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Qatar (+67 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Oman, Kuwait and the United Arab Emirates saw its share reduced by -7.6%, -27.4% and -32.7% from 2012 to 2022, respectively.

In value terms, Qatar ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported bambara beans in GCC, comprising 64% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by the United Arab Emirates ($X), with a 22% share of total imports. It was followed by Oman, with a 4.7% share.

In Qatar, bambara bean imports decreased by an average annual rate of -2.1% over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: the United Arab Emirates (-19.9% per year) and Oman (-11.7% per year).

Import Prices by Country

The import price in GCC stood at $X per ton in 2022, rising by 22% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, continues to indicate a noticeable curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when the import price increased by 38% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, major importing countries recorded the following prices: in Kuwait ($X per ton) and Qatar ($X per ton), while Oman ($X per ton) and the United Arab Emirates ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Oman (+4.0%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
