In 2021, approx. X tons of bedding and furnishing articles (quilts, eiderdowns, cushions, pouffes and pillows) were exported in GCC; which is down by -16.4% against 2020. Overall, exports saw a noticeable reduction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 30% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X tons. From 2018 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, bedding and furnishing article exports contracted remarkably to $X in 2021. In general, exports, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when exports increased by 39%. The level of export peaked at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

The United Arab Emirates prevails in exports structure, recording X tons, which was near 88% of total exports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Oman (X tons), committing an 8.4% share of total exports. Saudi Arabia (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Exports from the United Arab Emirates decreased at an average annual rate of -3.2% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Oman (+12.7%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Oman emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in GCC, with a CAGR of +12.7% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Saudi Arabia (-8.7%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Oman (+6.4 p.p.) and the United Arab Emirates (+3.7 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Saudi Arabia saw its share reduced by -1.5% from 2012 to 2021, respectively.

In value terms, the United Arab Emirates ($X) remains the largest bedding and furnishing article supplier in GCC, comprising 91% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Oman ($X), with a 6.8% share of total exports.

In the United Arab Emirates, bedding and furnishing article exports expanded at an average annual rate of +2.7% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Oman (+18.1% per year) and Saudi Arabia (-13.2% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The export price in GCC stood at $X per ton in 2021, approximately mirroring the previous year. Over the last nine years, it increased at an average annual rate of +4.4%. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 an increase of 23% against the previous year. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per ton; afterwards, it flattened through to 2021.

Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was the United Arab Emirates ($X per ton), while Saudi Arabia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

In 2021, the amount of bedding and furnishing articles (quilts, eiderdowns, cushions, pouffes and pillows) imported in GCC fell rapidly to X tons, waning by -45.7% on the previous year. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate a deep slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when imports increased by 26%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, bedding and furnishing article imports contracted significantly to $X in 2021. Overall, imports continue to indicate a deep reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of 25%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

The United Arab Emirates was the major importing country with an import of about X tons, which recorded 54% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Kuwait (X tons), Oman (X tons), Qatar (X tons) and Bahrain (X tons), together generating a 46% share of total imports.

Imports into the United Arab Emirates increased at an average annual rate of +1.1% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Oman (+10.7%), Kuwait (+5.5%) and Bahrain (+2.5%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Oman emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in GCC, with a CAGR of +10.7% from 2012-2021. Qatar experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. While the share of the United Arab Emirates (+35 p.p.), Kuwait (+17 p.p.), Oman (+8.5 p.p.), Qatar (+4.9 p.p.) and Bahrain (+3.3 p.p.) increased significantly, the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, the United Arab Emirates ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported bedding and furnishing articles (quilts, eiderdowns, cushions, pouffes and pillows) in GCC, comprising 61% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Kuwait ($X), with a 20% share of total imports. It was followed by Qatar, with an 8% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in the United Arab Emirates was relatively modest. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Kuwait (+4.0% per year) and Qatar (-1.0% per year).

The import price in GCC stood at $X per ton in 2021, surging by 35% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2021, it increased at an average annual rate of +4.3%. As a result, import price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
