Beer Exports
Exports in GCC
In 2022, approx. X tons of beer were exported in GCC; waning by -6.2% on the year before. Over the period under review, exports, however, continue to indicate a mild expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 369%. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, beer exports dropped to $X in 2022. In general, exports, however, enjoyed a tangible increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when exports increased by 221% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Exports by Country
The United Arab Emirates dominates exports structure, accounting for X tons, which was approx. 97% of total exports in 2022. Bahrain (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
Exports from the United Arab Emirates increased at an average annual rate of +1.6% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Bahrain (+26.5%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Bahrain emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in GCC, with a CAGR of +26.5% from 2012-2022. Bahrain (+1.5 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while the United Arab Emirates saw its share reduced by -1.9% from 2012 to 2022, respectively.
In value terms, the United Arab Emirates ($X) remains the largest beer supplier in GCC, comprising 97% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Bahrain ($X), with a 1.9% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value in the United Arab Emirates stood at +2.7%.
Export Prices by Country
In 2022, the export price in GCC amounted to $X per ton, with an increase of 2.1% against the previous year. Export price indicated a slight increase from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +1.1% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, beer export price decreased by -8.8% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 when the export price increased by 63% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Bahrain ($X per ton), while the United Arab Emirates totaled $X per ton.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United Arab Emirates (+1.1%).
Beer Imports
Imports in GCC
In 2022, the amount of beer imported in GCC reduced markedly to X tons, dropping by -18% compared with the previous year. In general, imports, however, enjoyed a buoyant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 64% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons, and then fell dramatically in the following year.
In value terms, beer imports declined notably to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a prominent increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 61% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X, and then fell remarkably in the following year.
Imports by Country
The United Arab Emirates was the main importing country with an import of about X tons, which reached 79% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Bahrain (X tons), Qatar (X tons) and Oman (X tons), together achieving a 21% share of total imports.
Imports into the United Arab Emirates increased at an average annual rate of +11.3% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Qatar (+16.7%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Qatar emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in GCC, with a CAGR of +16.7% from 2012-2022. Bahrain experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Oman (-1.4%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. The United Arab Emirates (+19 p.p.) and Qatar (+3.1 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Oman and Bahrain saw its share reduced by -7.1% and -13.7% from 2012 to 2022, respectively.
In value terms, the United Arab Emirates ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported beer in GCC, comprising 81% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Bahrain ($X), with a 9% share of total imports. It was followed by Qatar, with a 5.7% share.
In the United Arab Emirates, beer imports expanded at an average annual rate of +11.6% over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Bahrain (+0.6% per year) and Qatar (+15.9% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the import price in GCC amounted to $X per ton, standing approx. at the previous year. Overall, the import price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 an increase of 20%. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2020 to 2022, the import prices remained at a lower figure.
Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, major importing countries recorded the following prices: in the United Arab Emirates ($X per ton) and Qatar ($X per ton), while Oman ($X per ton) and Bahrain ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Bahrain (+1.2%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
