In 2021, the GCC brassiere market was finally on the rise to reach $X after three years of decline. In general, consumption, however, showed a noticeable reduction. As a result, consumption reached the peak level of $X. From 2014 to 2021, the growth of the market remained at a lower figure.
Brassiere Production in GCC
In value terms, brassiere production shrank modestly to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. Over the period under review, production showed a pronounced decrease. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 when the production volume increased by 16% against the previous year. The level of production peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, production failed to regain momentum.

After five years of growth, shipments abroad of brassieres of textile materials, whether or not elasticated decreased by -8.6% to X units in 2021. Overall, exports, however, continue to indicate significant growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when exports increased by 574% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at X units in 2020, and then declined in the following year.
In value terms, brassiere exports fell slightly to $X in 2021. In general, exports, however, enjoyed a significant increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when exports increased by 664%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2020, and then fell modestly in the following year.
Exports by Country
The shipments of the two major exporters of brassieres of textile materials, whether or not elasticated, namely the United Arab Emirates and Oman, represented more than two-thirds of total export.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main exporting countries, was attained by Oman (with a CAGR of +110.0%).
In value terms, the largest brassiere supplying countries in GCC were the United Arab Emirates ($X) and Oman ($X).
In terms of the main exporting countries, Oman, with a CAGR of +110.3%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review.
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the export price in GCC amounted to $X per unit, with an increase of 6.1% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, saw a deep reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when the export price increased by 15% against the previous year. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per unit. From 2015 to 2021, the export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the United Arab Emirates ($X per unit), while Oman amounted to $X per unit.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Oman (+0.1%).
Brassiere Imports
Imports in GCC
Brassiere imports soared to X units in 2021, with an increase of 29% on 2020. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 when imports increased by 34% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X units in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, brassiere imports soared to $X in 2021. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +5.9% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Imports by Country
The United Arab Emirates represented the largest importing country with an import of around X units, which recorded 76% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Kuwait (X units), constituting a 13% share of total imports. Oman (X units), Bahrain (X units) and Qatar (X units) took a minor share of total imports.
Imports into the United Arab Emirates decreased at an average annual rate of -3.2% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Qatar (+42.5%), Oman (+21.1%), Kuwait (+19.1%) and Bahrain (+14.7%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Qatar emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in GCC, with a CAGR of +42.5% from 2012-2021. Kuwait (+10 p.p.), Oman (+3.7 p.p.), Qatar (+3.1 p.p.) and Bahrain (+2.4 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while the United Arab Emirates saw its share reduced by -19.4% from 2012 to 2021, respectively.
In value terms, the United Arab Emirates ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported brassieres of textile materials, whether or not elasticated in GCC, comprising 50% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Kuwait ($X), with a 13% share of total imports. It was followed by Qatar, with an 8.1% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in the United Arab Emirates was relatively modest. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Kuwait (+19.2% per year) and Qatar (+33.0% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the import price in GCC amounted to $X per unit, picking up by 10% against the previous year. Import price indicated a prominent expansion from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +6.7% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, brassiere import price increased by +88.8% against 2014 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 when the import price increased by 25%. The level of import peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Qatar ($X per unit), while the United Arab Emirates ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Oman (+4.9%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
