The GCC breathing appliances market expanded rapidly to $X in 2022, rising by 5.7% against the previous year. In general, consumption showed a resilient increase. Over the period under review, the market hit record highs at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, consumption failed to regain momentum.

In 2022, exports of breathing appliances and gas masks in GCC dropped to X units, with a decrease of -12.5% on 2021. Overall, exports, however, enjoyed a strong expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 367% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X units. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, breathing appliances exports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, recorded a remarkable increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 277% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

The United Arab Emirates prevails in exports structure, finishing at X units, which was approx. 91% of total exports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Saudi Arabia (X units), achieving a 6.6% share of total exports.

The United Arab Emirates was also the fastest-growing in terms of the breathing appliances and gas masks exports, with a CAGR of +9.6% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Saudi Arabia (+3.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. From 2012 to 2022, the share of the United Arab Emirates increased by +9.4 percentage points.

In 2022, the export price in GCC amounted to $X per unit, surging by 65% against the previous year. Overall, the export price posted a resilient increase. As a result, the export price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Saudi Arabia ($X per unit), while the United Arab Emirates stood at $X per unit.

In 2022, the amount of breathing appliances and gas masks imported in GCC skyrocketed to X units, picking up by 24% on the year before. Total imports indicated a pronounced increase from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.8% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports decreased by -8.9% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when imports increased by 60% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X units in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when imports increased by 43%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

In 2022, the United Arab Emirates (X units) represented the largest importer of breathing appliances and gas masks, making up 55% of total imports. Kuwait (X units) held a 16% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Qatar (13%) and Oman (12%). Bahrain (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Imports into the United Arab Emirates increased at an average annual rate of +1.8% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Oman (+8.7%), Qatar (+7.0%) and Kuwait (+4.1%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Oman emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in GCC, with a CAGR of +8.7% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Bahrain (-6.4%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Oman (+5 p.p.), Qatar (+4.3 p.p.) and Kuwait (+1.9 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Bahrain and the United Arab Emirates saw its share reduced by -5.5% and -5.7% from 2012 to 2022, respectively.

In value terms, the United Arab Emirates ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported breathing appliances and gas masks in GCC, comprising 50% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Kuwait ($X), with a 9.9% share of total imports. It was followed by Qatar, with an 8.3% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in the United Arab Emirates was relatively modest. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Kuwait (+11.2% per year) and Qatar (+8.3% per year).

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the import price in GCC amounted to $X per unit, increasing by 5.2% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 an increase of 25% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices reached the maximum at $X per unit in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the United Arab Emirates ($X per unit), while Bahrain ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Kuwait (+6.8%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
