Exports in GCC
In 2021, shipments abroad of builders' joinery and carpentry of wood decreased by -4.8% to X tons, falling for the third year in a row after two years of growth. Overall, exports saw a abrupt setback. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 with an increase of 61%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, wooden joinery and carpentry exports soared to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The United Arab Emirates represented the main exporting country with an export of around X tons, which recorded 73% of total exports. Oman (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total exports with an 11% share, followed by Saudi Arabia (10%). The following exporters - Bahrain (X tons) and Kuwait (X tons) - together made up 4.1% of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to wooden joinery and carpentry exports from the United Arab Emirates stood at -2.7%. At the same time, Oman (+17.7%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Oman emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in GCC, with a CAGR of +17.7% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Bahrain (-4.6%), Kuwait (-5.0%) and Saudi Arabia (-17.4%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, the United Arab Emirates ($X) remains the largest wooden joinery and carpentry supplier in GCC, comprising 77% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Oman ($X), with an 8.5% share of total exports. It was followed by Saudi Arabia, with an 8.4% share.
In the United Arab Emirates, wooden joinery and carpentry exports remained relatively stable over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Oman (+10.5% per year) and Saudi Arabia (-9.4% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the export price in GCC amounted to $X per ton, increasing by 38% against the previous year. Over the last nine years, it increased at an average annual rate of +5.1%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Bahrain ($X per ton), while Oman ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Saudi Arabia (+9.7%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in GCC
In 2021, purchases abroad of builders' joinery and carpentry of wood decreased by -6.7% to X tons, falling for the sixth consecutive year after four years of growth. In general, imports saw a deep reduction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 with an increase of 22% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2016 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, wooden joinery and carpentry imports surged to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports showed a noticeable curtailment. The level of import peaked at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

The United Arab Emirates (X tons), Saudi Arabia (X tons) and Qatar (X tons) represented roughly 82% of total imports in 2021. Oman (X tons) held an 8.3% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Kuwait (6.5%). Bahrain (X tons) took a minor share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Qatar (with a CAGR of +4.1%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the imports figures.
In value terms, the largest wooden joinery and carpentry importing markets in GCC were the United Arab Emirates ($X), Qatar ($X) and Saudi Arabia ($X), together accounting for 84% of total imports.
Among the main importing countries, Qatar, with a CAGR of +3.1%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
