Exports in GCC
After three years of decline, overseas shipments of ceramic household articles and toilet articles increased by 60% to X tons in 2021. In general, exports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, ceramic household article exports surged to $X in 2021. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +2.1% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.
Exports by Country
The United Arab Emirates dominates exports structure, reaching X tons, which was approx. 92% of total exports in 2021. Saudi Arabia (X tons) and Oman (X tons) held a relatively small share of total exports.
The United Arab Emirates experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of exports of ceramic household articles and toilet articles. At the same time, Oman (+25.8%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Oman emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in GCC, with a CAGR of +25.8% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Saudi Arabia (-5.9%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Oman (+2.7 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2021, the share of Saudi Arabia (-2.7 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, the United Arab Emirates ($X) remains the largest ceramic household article supplier in GCC, comprising 92% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Saudi Arabia ($X), with a 3% share of total exports.
In the United Arab Emirates, ceramic household article exports expanded at an average annual rate of +1.9% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Saudi Arabia (+0.7% per year) and Oman (+25.3% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the export price in GCC amounted to $X per ton, which is down by -4.7% against the previous year. Export price indicated a measured increase from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +2.4% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, ceramic household article export price decreased by -25.3% against 2018 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when the export price increased by 30%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2019 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the United Arab Emirates ($X per ton), while Oman ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Saudi Arabia (+7.0%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.
Ceramic Household Article Imports
Imports in GCC
In 2021, imports of ceramic household articles and toilet articles in GCC soared to X tons, with an increase of 15% on 2020. In general, imports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 when imports increased by 24% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2015 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, ceramic household article imports surged to $X in 2021. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +5.4% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 when imports increased by 41% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
Imports by Country
Saudi Arabia (X tons) and the United Arab Emirates (X tons) dominates imports structure, together creating 81% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Kuwait (X tons) and Qatar (X tons), together generating a 14% share of total imports. Oman (X tons) and Bahrain (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Kuwait (with a CAGR of +10.4%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the United Arab Emirates ($X), Saudi Arabia ($X) and Kuwait ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, together accounting for 88% of total imports.
In terms of the main importing countries, Kuwait, with a CAGR of +15.1%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The import price in GCC stood at $X per ton in 2021, with an increase of 11% against the previous year. Import price indicated a resilient expansion from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +6.1% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, ceramic household article import price increased by +33.6% against 2017 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when the import price increased by 15%. The level of import peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Qatar ($X per ton), while Saudi Arabia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
