Over the period under review, imports, however, faced a significant decrease. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, non-wheat cereal pellets imports soared to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, faced a abrupt decrease. The level of import peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

The United Arab Emirates represented the major importing country with an import of about X tons, which resulted at 64% of total imports. Kuwait (X tons) took the second position in the ranking, distantly followed by Bahrain (X tons). All these countries together took near 36% share of total imports.

Imports into the United Arab Emirates decreased at an average annual rate of -26.1% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Kuwait (+10.3%) displayed positive paces of growth. In value terms, Kuwait ($X), the United Arab Emirates ($X) and Bahrain ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, together accounting for 99% of total imports.

Kuwait, with a CAGR of +27.5%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced a decline in the imports figures.

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the import price in GCC amounted to $X per ton, dropping by -50.4% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, recorded resilient growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 when the import price increased by 173% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2020, and then contracted remarkably in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Kuwait ($X per ton), while the United Arab Emirates ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Kuwait (+15.6%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
