The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, sulphite wood pulp imports soared to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, recorded a deep contraction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of 113% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

The United Arab Emirates was the major importing country with an import of about X tons, which resulted at 62% of total imports. Qatar (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total imports with a 19% share, followed by Oman (13%) and Kuwait (4.6%).

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to sulphite wood pulp imports into the United Arab Emirates stood at -17.6%. At the same time, Oman (+21.6%), Kuwait (+17.9%) and Qatar (+16.2%) displayed positive paces of growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when the import price increased by 88%. Over the period under review, import prices attained the maximum in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Oman ($X per ton), while the United Arab Emirates ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
