The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, chicory export price increased by +111.1% against 2017 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 when the export price increased by 35%. As there is only one major export destination, the average price level is determined by prices for the United Arab Emirates.

Chicory Imports
Imports in GCC
In 2021, supplies from abroad of chicory was finally on the rise to reach X kg after four years of decline. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a noticeable downturn. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 when imports increased by 135%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2017 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, chicory imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. In general, imports showed a strong increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 with an increase of 243% against the previous year. The level of import peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.
Imports by Country
In 2021, Qatar (X kg) was the main importer of chicory, constituting 45% of total imports. It was distantly followed by the United Arab Emirates (X kg), Kuwait (X kg) and Bahrain (X kg), together mixing up a 53% share of total imports. Oman (X kg) held a relatively small share of total imports.

In value terms, the largest chicory importing markets in GCC were Kuwait ($X), Bahrain ($X) and Qatar ($X), together comprising 92% of total imports.
Qatar, with a CAGR of +66.4%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the import price in GCC amounted to $X per ton, surging by 13% against the previous year. In general, the import price enjoyed a buoyant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 an increase of 139% against the previous year. The level of import peaked in 2021 and is likely to see gradual growth in the near future.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Bahrain ($X per ton), while the United Arab Emirates ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Bahrain (+39.5%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
